Blackstone tests show coolant in the oil, while bubbler tests come back great. She's drinking 2QT's every 3,000, with absolutely no leaks. I want to drive her forever, so I'm looking to do a full rebuild of my engine. As it's my DD, and I don't have a shop or tools adequate enough to do this on my own, I'm looking for some experience.

I spoke with Built Right Engines this afternoon out of Parkville. They have been rebuilding engines for 33 years and our initial conversation went very well.

Has anyone heard of or worked with Built Right before? Any other shops in the metro you would recommend?

The easy money would be to post up and see if someone local has a running one they are willing to part with and just swap motors. I know for a fact that someone has at least one if not two but I don't know if he is wanting to get rid of them. Second easiest is to take someone a spare motor and have them do whatever you want. Then its about a days work to swap them out. Or pull yours out for the rebuild like you said. Once they are on the stand they are a pretty easy motor to deal with.

If I were going to let someone else do one of these motors for me I would be very critical about where they sourced the parts from. There is simply not enough $$$ difference to make it worthwhile not going with OEM. The quality of the genuine Toyota parts is so far above and beyond that its not even comparable. Also, there is a good chance that your bottom end may have extremely minimal wear, cylinder walls, bearings, etc. This is very common actually and you may just require a good set of NPR rings to get your compression up and help cut your oil consumption.
