Don't know of an '06 FJC, bought mine in 4/06 but it was sold as an '07.
But, to the point, you can use dyno oil or synthetic, Mr. Toyota recommends 5-30w (as printed on the fill cap), not sure the environment you are in to want to run 20-50.

Well, it's all you need to know about Amsoil from an Amsoil dealer, anyway.
Don't put 20w-50 in it. It's not a race car and its not an ancient diesel. It takes 5w-20. If you live in a desert, maybe 5w-30.

Yeah, I guess you are correct in many ways. I am not one of those "that drank the coolaid" so to speak. Trying to get people to move away from the 20/50 mentality is tough, especially for the older generation of hot rodders. I was amazed to see 0/20 and 0/30 recommendations for engine oils from the factory.
Thicker oil means greater pumping resistance. If a manufacturer can can gain a couple few mpg by making the engine good enough for thin oil, they will invest in the manufacturing to do so. Putting 20w-50 into a 4.0L because that's what worked in your F is just ignoring 80 years of manufacturing advancement.
