Hey guys sorry I missed the wrench day. Sounds like you guys had some fun.
Well after work I stopped to get gas for the 3.slow and by the time I was done pumping I had a puddle of oil under her. The good part is my wife thinks it's serious and has signed off on the new engine kit. So I'm wondering where to get a complete rebuild kit for a good price? Someone on mudd suggested engbldr.com. They had a master kit for$388. Thats not bad but I've never heard of them before. Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Steve

My suggestion is skip the "engine kit". You're just paying somebody alse to throw all the cheapest stock replacement parts in a box for you. some of the stuff is low quality, some is unneeded. And there will be a few parts not in the kit that will be needed.

Tear the engine down, determine what parts are needed and have the machine shop order them. Go to the dealer that gives you the 25% TLCA discount to get the OEM parts (molded hoses, etc) that can't be obtained aftermarket.

Steve,

I agree with Jim. Buying on price here is going to get you in trouble. In my experience I really think rebuilding is the most costly and labor intense route. With the market flooded with cars the junkyards are flooded too. I did a quick search on car-part.com for a 1990 truck engine(dont know your year). There are a bunch in our area. I think you could get a engine with alot of life left in her for 600-1000 bucks with all the accessories.

Good machine shops are expensive and so are good parts. With you doing all the Dis&Re assembly work I bet you would have 1500 in it easy. Wait till you see the vette engine in my 80. I paid 1500 for it with all the accesories wiring and computer. It has 40,000 on it. It looks like new! No way I could have rebuilt a old chev for this kinda budget.

Check it out....

Kirk
