electrolytic cleaning ?

Yeah, as soon as the weather stabilizes, I'll be trying some as well. Will post pics as I go through the process.
This just seemed like too much fun so I decided to try it out!
I got a little 2 gallon busket and droped a bunch of long nails in the water.
(didn't really extend far enough down, but didn't have anything better that was *sacrificail* )
I couldn't find Arm & Hammer washing soda at K-fart so I used Cascade powdered dishwashing stuff.
Wired everything with 12 ga solid copper from home 120v wire.
Hooked my old 10 A batt charger and bubbled away!
I used it on a couple rused bolts and 2 door hinges off my FJ40 softtop.
It works! (sloooowly...
)
the rust all came off after about 6-7 hours and some of the paint (about 4-5 layers of it...)
hitting the paint with a wire brush and it comes right off!
more current and voltage would probably make a difference. I'm thinking of a 12v 60-100 A DC regulated power supply for car stereo displays *evil grin*

The caustic soda, caustic flake, etc.... i listed above, is what automotive strippers use for dipping cars and such to be stripped, or very similiar. Talked with a local car stripper, and found a few over then net that use the same stuff basically.
did the whole deal with dish soap, let them sit for 24 hrs, worked great. Need to be topped off every other day, but i ran lots of different heavily rusted parts through it. Ate the crap out of my electrode though, lol. set it up for 4 amps on the battery charger, worked great. NOW it is time for caustic solution of some sort.
