I've been thinking about the new breed of electric bicycle that have Lithium Ion batteries and 1HP motors. Anyone have experience with these? Any recommendations?

nope, haven't tried one... but then again I'm a believer in the whole less is more/keeping it simple. good luck though...

I'm too lazy to pedal and these are classified as bicycles by the feds.

is this the wheel kit?... there are so many people selling them, you cannot tell which ones are junk or not.

I'm looking at the complete bikes with the rechargable lithium battery and aluminum fram in the 50 lbs range. Its in the $2000 range so I'd like to get more information before spending that kind of money.

There are some really cheap $1000 ones that I think might be junky.

Are your legs broken? Why not get a $50 used mo-ped if you just want to get around without pedaling?

there are some retrofit kits on ebay in the $300 range. it's a wheel hub and electronics.. you buy the battery and build the wheel.

If you can find me a used mo-ped for $50, I'll take it! Besides, Mo-peds cannot legallygo on bike trails.

Can somebody please explain to me to point of an electric bike? When did pedaling become such a chore?

Moped

OK, not $50- but still WAY less than the $2K you're talking about.

It's great to have as an electric assist when going up hill or pulling a trailer. It can also be used by people with limited functions in their legs.
