Just experienced the Immobilizer/EFI cut-out issue first hand while in the middle of no-where Nevada. I procrastinated ordering the Bypass Kit last year after reading through this thread, from medtro/Jackson; thought my '99 was immune o_O. So there we were in a no start situation a long way from anywhere including internet/cell. Thankfully there was another rig with us and we were able to get to the cell service & internet (30-mile jaunt) and I was at least able to run a wire from battery + to the relay slot...started right up.

My advice: Don't procrastinate getting one of these bypass kits from @medtro !

And, thanks to all who contributed to this thread including @medtro and my soon to be delivered bypass kit!

This bypass kit bypasses the bad EFI relay circuit in the fuse box so that the immobilizer system gets adequate power supply for starting the car. I made this for myself after my new 30A replacement fuse - initial fix for crank but not start problem, failed to start after 4 days. Some members have showed interest in the kit and asked me to sell this kit.

This bypass kit is for you if:
  • You are told a new fuse box 82720-60023 will fix your intermittent starting problem but you don't want to spend $460 just for the part alone
  • You have intermittent starting problem and you replaced the 20A EFI fuse with 30A fuse or paper clip
  • You have intermittent starting problem and you have been tapping or removing/replacing relays and fuses in the fuse box
  • You want to have this kit in your glove compartment in case you run into this crank and non starting problem
This kit is 100% plug and play, no need to splice any wires.

Kit comes with relay, two fuses (one for spare) and installation instructions. $83 shipped to 48 states. PM for payment info or shipping cost outside 48 states.

Different Tyco relay (with same capabilities) and fuse holder are used in the kit since the following picture is taken. The kit you will be getting will not look identical as shown in picture below.

I need this kit for a 2001 Landcruiser. Please email instructions of how to pay, etc. @kenjoplin@gmail.com

In need this kit. Please contact me. Thank you so much

Just got the kit. Easy to install. Start right after installation.
My Toyota LC 2000 previously had intermittent no start issue with red security light blinking. Last week the engine even dropped dead for a few times on highway. I have to pull over and restart the car after that. Hope the issue will be fixed after installing the kit.

Medtro, I have a 2005 Landcruiser TD displaying the same fault. Will your kit work with this model also.

Regards
John

After installed the kit, my issues are fixed. Thanks again.

Medtro- This sounds like what I need! However, mine is a 2004 LC and the fusebox and relays look a bit different. I have been having the intermittent starting issue that folks in this thread have been describing: Cranks perfectly, no start. Keys work fine and it starts with ether.

If this fits, I'd like to buy one. Does it stay in place once installed?

I'll send a PM as well.

Thanks, Phil

Yes, the same kit will work on 2004 LC. It stays in the fuse box once installed.

Trying to decide if this will take care of the issue I’ve been experiencing with my 2000 TLC. On a couple of occasions, I turn the key and all the dash lights illuminate but no crank. More often it will crank but not start on the first turn of the key - sometimes sputters a little like it’s trying to turn over - but when I back off the key and turn it again it will start.

Of course it won’t do it on command and haven’t had the luxury of being able to leave it with the mechanic a few days since it’s my daily ride. He’s suggested replacing the fuse box, but I don’t want to throw $500 plus at it without knowing that will definitely solve it and avoid other issues. Does the fuse box come with the actual box (bottom and cover), electrical board inside the box and all relays and fuses?

Thoughts?

I don't think this kit will take care of your issue. I would look at battery condition, battery cable connections and corrosion, starter contacts, fuel pump, coolant sensor, crank position sensor, cam sensor ... Sorry, I don't know what comes with fuse box.

Thanks for the input. Battery is just over a year old and tests fine - no corrosion. Starter and Alternator have been replaced within the last 2 years if not less. Fuel pump replaced within the last year.

When starter replaced there was an issue with them needing to pull the fuse box and clean some corrosion on a wire to it as the starter wasn’t getting power but operated fine if powering it directly. So thinking that gremlin May be back.

Your LC doing better now?

@medtro I just purchased a 2001 with the no check eng light when I turn the key and security light blinking. Cranks but won't start! Need your kit man. PM'd you too. Thanks!
