We are getting close to replacing the carpets in our house and I don't know diddly about it anymore. I was leaning towards 100% Wool for all the right reasons but cannot seem to find the shops locally to supply/service. Is there any such thing as a synthetic that really performs well without all sorts of chemical out-gassing? I really don't know diddly about this anymore so you can't be too basic here. Thanks as always.

Be careful who you deal with. Carpet salesman are worse than used car salesman. There is a place near me that takes the same carpet and has given it 4 different grades, all with different prices.

Also, I have been told by many not to skimp on the pad

Thanks. Really all I can come up with is checking BBB comparisons because basically everyone I've asked about this so far states that they either have the original carpet in their "pre-owned home" or that they got builder grade carpeting as part of their "new home".

From what little I've learned from some searching recently, Wool is still the superior fiber for almost all considerations but I can't seem to find the stuff and I honestly don't know if the synthetics that are available presently are almost as good. I do know I want to avoid some of the toxins that come with some synthetics but other than that I'm lost. I've seen some crazy stuff too throughout stores - carpets made from corn, supposedly stain proof stuff, supposedly traffic proof stuff, etc. etc. etc.

I do know that I will avoid any "home store installation specials" and I do know that I will avoid anyone with a bad BBB rating. Other than that ... its all ???

Thanks I appreciate any additional advice here.
