I read the section in the owners manual and searched here but I'm still lost.
How exactly does the ECT power work?

Push the button......

Seriously though, it's supposed to increase the RPM for the shift range. If you just stomp on the gas though, I think it's the same thing.

+1

There was a kind of long thread about this topic a couple months ago.

Yep.... changes the shift points even when not stomping on the gas. Before I got bigger tires, I only used it when towing.

Now with 33"s I leave it on all the time and it seems to offset the different ratio.

But what does ECT stand for?

Extra Cash to Texaco
Enviromental Controls Totally disregarded
Epa Can't Touch

Do you seriously feel/see a difference when you stomp on the gas? I notice under moderate gas that it increases the range roughly 500 rpm, but not much if I'm using my- more often than not- heavy foot.

Haha, extra cash is right!

Electronic Control Transmission

So with ECT on the transmission should down shift at a higher RPM as well?
I was on a curvy little rural mountain road and the trans never seemed to down shift early enough to keep my foot out of the floor board.

If I pound my foot down, the vehicle will more than likely downshift in response.

If you accelerate with a heavy foot, the shift points are higher.

The ECT Power works well on curving mountain roads. It downshifts quicker and upshifts slower allowing you to stay in the power band longer (or in engine braking mode more). It is also nice when carrying a load, or if you like a more sporty feel around town. Gas mileage is supposed to be less, but I have not noticed a difference. Used appropriately, it could save gas: if you need to use the power band and reduce excessive shifting.
