i have a couple of quick simple questions ( i did search)

what oil to use in a 76 2f, and what fluid for the trans and transmission

i asked on the mud forum and some as%^&* hat gave me some smart answer, i going to download a fsm as soon as the site is running i have been having trouble toady.

any good 30w. shell rotella is good if you want to clean out any crud as well.

Any gear lube should be fine. stay away from the synthetics. you will be changing it enough that it is not worth it. i just grabbed 2 gallons of walmart brand. enough for the diffs, t-case, and tranny.

thanks for the quick response, hows the troopy going, by the pics looks like you live in west mobile, id like to check it out one weekend.

Engine oil and gear oils are mostly personal preference. You can find many debates on viscosity, weight, benefits of synthetics, etc. on the tech forum. However, all boil down to personal preferences.

I use the following in my 2F:

Engine Oil, Castrol 20W50.

* 10W40 and 10W50 also work for warmer climates.

* Why 20W50? Your engine will run a little higher "normal" oil pressure and works well in warmer climates.

Transfer Case, Transmission, and your differentials all use gear oil, SAE 90W-140.

* Toyota recommends using SAE 90, but don't waste time trying to locate it. You can check with Tractor Supply or a CO-OP to see if they stock it, but end your search there. If you find some let me know.

* SAE 80W-90 is acceptable and widely used.

* Why SAE 90W140? I feel that a heavier weight oil lubricates (crawls) the gears better.

When changing your tcase, trans, and diff oils make sure to loosen your fill bolts BEFORE you loosen the drain plugs. Just a precaution if you have never removed them before.

Good Luck!

Werd, you run 20W90? Wow.... ;)

Yeah, the 20W90 is some thick stuff. I usually have to let it drain over night...
