g'day all,
a belated happy new year to you all!
i've done the obligatory search but couldn't find anything on my dust issue.

i get a fair bit of dust coming in to the rear of my LC through the compartment which houses the jack on the left-hand rear side of the 'cruiser.

it's worse if i have my front windows open and the cabin is un-pressurized. I also get it occasionally coming through the left-hand rear passenger side where the carpet meets the rear wheel arch trim too.
Is this normal or do i need to get Toyota to check sealing?

any advice appreciated
cheers
peter

There is a plastic plug down low behind the outer tail light. It is also used to route the tow wiring harness. Check if it is secured.

Also, I believe there are exit vents on both sides, in the rear where the tail lights are. It could be just dust/dirt coming from open windows or through the air vents and and exiting. It would seem natural the dirt/dust would collect at the bottlenecks.

The exterior vents that you see behind the rear-quarter glass have one way flappers that open to the jack compartment and should only allow air flow when there is positive interior pressure. Sounds like the flapper is stuck open allowing outside dust to enter.

Not sure if these are best accessed from inside the vehicle or from outside.

my best guess is from the inside by removing those two panels. NM, your probably right about that vent...seems very logical to me.
