Just wanted to say thanks to everyone on here that posted their durabak stories and tips/tricks to making it look nice. Without it I would not have attempted this and just paid Line-x $600 to do it.
I am so glad I did this myself and it turned out better than I expected. I used the standard black durabak-18 rough. Took less than half a gallon to do 2 coats.
Took about 5 to 6 hours to remove the stock plastics, tape the line, clean, sand and clean again. The actual application of the durabak took maybe 40 minutes to do both coats.
The one bit of tech I can add to this, get this tape!!! Carborundum Abrasives 30154 - Carborundum Abrasives Blue FineLine Masking Tape - Overview - SummitRacing.com
The tape is kind of a cross between painters tape and electrical tape. I was able to use a single piece to bend around the wheel well and it came off cleanly.
Before
Removal and Tape
Lots of sanding.
Holes filled with metal tape.
Time for the durabak
2 coats later
Done. (front bumper needs a little trim now)
