We have beat the Nittos pretty hard in Arizona rocks with zero holes in them.

Ran the Dunlop Radial Rover RT with good results. Smooth balance, long life, good traction and impressive durability. Dunno what construction it had but I banged a lot of stumps in the snow wheeling them and never damaged a sidewall. Agree the Toyos are worth a look, too.

Reviving an old thread to prove that I searched...

I had my wife's '96 in the tire store today fixing a leak and asked about what they could get me in 255/85R16. He said that they had a sale going on on Dunlops.

He's offering me the Rover RVXT at $95 a tire. Thats about $40 a tire less than TireRack. Her Michelines aren't badly worn yet... But the $95 a tire sounds tempting. Is that a good price on these? Will she be happy with them on her road only FZJ80? Does anyone have a feeling for them compared to the stock Michelines?

My personal experience is that Dunlop makes an all around softer and consistent compound than Michelin, so as they wear they still stick well. But I'm pretty down on Michelin anyway. I think $95 is smokin for a 255/85r16

How is the sidewall strength on the RVXT? When her Micheline went flat the sidewalls wadded up like tissue paper and put the rim on the folds.

I'm really thinking of putting these on her truck this next week. I've been unimpressed with the Micheline tires. They're very very quiet, but they don't seem very durable at all. Thin stuff.
