Guys, need your advice.
who runs a Rage big bore dump on their 1HD-T ?
I want to replace my factory cast dump pipe on my 1991 HDJ81 because I have already installed 3" exhuast.
option #1
make myself.... yeah right, my names not Matt~!

option #2 - Beaudesert from Aust has a ceramic coated dumpt that bolts right on but is 500 bucvks plus tax and shipping.... pretty expensive eh.
option #3 - Rage big Bore has a kit that would seem to work. part #BB3113.

Anybody have any intel???

I am doing a rear main seal swap shortly at ATEB so when we pull apart if should make life easier to tackle those pesky seized bolts on the turbo...

How about a modified option #1, like having Mat or someone else fab you one up?

Thats almost exactly what I need, it looks good. Is that your handiwork? nice job if is.
I know Matts busy but if someone made the one in the pic maybe they have the template??:grinpimp:
Id be very interested to know more details and how to acquire.... Did ATEB do that when they did your exhaust? ATEB did my 3" exhaust in aluminum....

yep- mine is the same. There is some aluminized pipe in my system, mostly stainless apparently...
 
I really wanted the complete stainless Beaudesert kit with the new dump, but due to time constraints and finances I went with Rage Big Bore kit from John at Rocky Mtn for not too much more than the cost of a custom exhaust shop job. Nice multi piece kit that hangs off the factory mounts/blocks. Can't say what is lost in performance from the slight restriction at the stock dump. I don't loose much sleep over it. Replacing the squished pipe above the rear x member with full 3" is going to make the most difference I figure.
The pipe used in the big bore kit offers little for rust prevention. It's pretty rusty now.
The ceramic coated kit wasn't an option when I bought.. next time I will probably go that route.
 
Yeah- Mine hasn't shown any rust yet... A little on the flex pipe maybe.
 
What about spaying it with some high temp paint?
 
John covered sections of my exhaust in the high temp paint directly on the metal, should be fine, we shall see what happens
 
The new Rage Big Bores are no longer using the three bolt flange, rather they are replacing the cast dump section on the turbo with a steel part that is integral with the front pipe.
