Dumbest thing PO did?

1.) Installed truck mirrors that are now completely toast. Driver's side glass is shattered, the bracket for the passenger side just flops around every time I brake or accelerate... So, if I replace with OEM style mirrors I will now have holes in the middle of the doors...

2.) Paid for a cheap paint job. Some areas look good, other areas are crap. Bondo'd over body damage and rust, but I knew about all that at the time of purchase because it was very obvious. :meh:

3.) Somehow managed to cave in both rocker panels. Those will be fun to fix... :bang:

Duct taped over the rust along the rocker for about 10", directly below the B piller, painted carefully to match
the body colour. I bought the truck cause it had 13BT and was cheap. But this ensured
its life now as a parts truck.

Lol I know the truck that has that interior. Been on the market for a while. Never seen it in person, but I bet it is pretty comfy!

Not mine - just noticed it on Craigslist. Sorry if this is yours...

I had to look out of curiosity, and I'm left with a few thoughts...

1) Why?
2) Interesting choice mounting a screen directly under the manual shifter and in front of t-case shifter
3) How much time and $$$ did they spend on that when they could have been addressing rust (bad spots on roof and at least one QP that's shot) and a busted tail light
4) The front seats and center console (minus screen part) are actually pretty nice looking in the other photo in the ad

Without third row seats, I'd love to have that center divider between my kids sometimes...

Stupid dual blade windshield wipers that weren't even attached to the wiper arms- maybe I'm the bonehead for not testing the wipers on my first drive- but first day after and the wipers sailed off to each side and the bare wiper arms scraped raw across the windshield glass...
but compared to some of the stories above, I think I got off lucky!

I had a whopper to start with...
  1. Charcoal canister vent was hooked into the windshield washer nozzles
  2. PCV Completely clogged
  3. Wrong size battery
  4. "Bodywork" was done and sprayed with "blue" paint that doesn't even come close to matching
  5. Chevy steel wheels that are a tick off and I think are sheering my wheel studs
  6. Upside down thermostat
  7. Approximately 752 different size bolts and either metric or standard, whatever was on the ground I guess
  8. Hacked sterio
  9. Completely blown shocks
  10. Original fuel tank (got the recall done!)
I'll have more once I hear back from the engine builder, I'm sure. One good thing is that I'll know every square inch of that truck in the shortest time possible.

That charcoal canister vent is high on the leader board for this thread in my mind haha

How bout this one:
As the cherry on the top of a total hack desmog - PCV HIC line routed to dizzy cap. Got pretty oily in there.

Also never met a gasket that couldn't be improved with copious amounts of RTV.

I've converted a few from mechanical to electric on the fuel pump, but my son @mcguirejohnson picked up a 84 in western CO last year and the PO dropped in an electric FP and routed the fuel lines through the mechanical pump. I thought for sure the pump arm was removed, but upon further inspection it was a perfectly good OEM pump. We removed the noisy electric pump and she purred like any 2F should. I'm still scratching my head on that one. I later asked the PO about it and he said his brother did that mod and he had no idea why :)
