I'm interested in installing a dual battery system to run a warn 9.5ti (and any other mods that need power) but I don't know where to begin. Can anyone suggest how to go about this or tell me who makes dual setups for the FJ? Much appreciated.

Yes, I just posted yesterweek on this.
The outfits also suggest you hook your winch to your stock battery, not the 2nd one.

Use the 2nd one to start the rig if the main battery fails.

Thanks dude,
Do you mind my asking roughly how much this setup set you back?

I gave Wayne $100 to buy the box and fab it for me.
You can also get away from fabbing the box like he did, you can use spacers behind it for the back two holes.

$100 Box and fab work by Wayne
$112 for the Painless kit
$170 Yellow Top Optima battery
_____
$380 not counting all the tax on the latter two items.

Labor at my local Cartoys
$370 I think, which was labor, nice stereo clamps that go on the battery of the Optima, battery rings on the other ends of the new battery cables they fabbed up, and of course the heavy cabling.
It was about a 5 hour wiring job for them.
If I had mounted the battery box myself it would have been cheaper, but we have had a lot of rain as of late, and that really cuts into me getting any mods like that done on my own.

Instead if drilling 4 holes in your fenderwell like my setup, you can utilize 4 holes that are already there.

He is using spacers as I mentioned above.

I thought the main purpose to run a yellow top optima was to run your winch, lights and all other 'stuff' and keep the main battery isolated for starting. Putting the winch to the starting battery sounds like a bad idea to me.

I agree. Accessories should go a on an "accessory" isolated battery and not deplete the starting battery. This concept of buying a second battery that is always charged but never used, except on the rare occasion one wants to self-jump, seems goofy to me. To each their own, but if you're going to buy a good battery for winching, it ought to be used for that purpose.

I'm running a TRD CAI; Do you think i'll have any problems fitting the new battery in that location?

Any word on if it will fit with the CAI? If not, where else could the 2nd battery be mounted if there is no room under the hood?

People are running the aux battery and the TRD-CAI. I don't have any pictures but the person to call would be CRUISER LARRY Dirty Parts

"You can contact us with any questions a Info@DirtyParts.com, or give us a call during business hours at (310) 390 9086"

This isn't a shameless plug. He really is the guy I'd call with that question. I plan to run an aux. battery with a TRD-CAI and the new Safari Snorkel and it fits - but you loose space under the hood for sure. Running that with a URD Supercharger would be a bit of a squeeze...:D

We run a TRD CAI system with the second battery in the position shown, fits perfectly. Its a snug fit installing but it looks factory when finished. We used an aftermarket battery box off of e bay, got a great isolator and all ahve worked perfectly for many month now. The only design challenge was giving the box support on the inner wheel well down side. Now all light, winches etc are hooked to the aux battery and the main is just hooked to factory hook ups.
