does anyone know if anybody makes driveshaft spacers for 85 4runner.just put a 4 inch lift in and don't like the slipe yoke extention I now have. Don't really want to spend a small fortune have the shafts extended either!

Ive never heard of anything like that. Just muck up and re-tube it. I had to, it's in the shop now.

Never heard of one nor do I think it would be save to do. You would be adding something between the U joint and the third member plate. It would have to be balanced perfectly and not to mention the holes you would have to drill to get the bolts through it. Adding that excess weight would increase any vibration you may have in your driveline.

Then you have the bolts you need, they would be nearly as expensive as redoing your driveshaft.

Bite the bullet and redo your shaft, I would not do an extension but it is your truck.

seems like if you were to add a spacer, then go off road, there would be a lot more leverage on the joint, and it could break it. plus youd be messing with the geometry to a degree thats not in your favor.

contact http://www.sixstates.com/ for driveshaft service. they have many locations

I have seen many people use them on their samurais with no trouble at all.In
fact just about every spring over kit for samis come with aluminum spacers for the driveshaft. As long as their aluminum the weight added is minumum. As far as centering the drveshaft on the third member flange the small ring on the driveshaft flange should do that(fits into a indent machined into the spacer,like-wise with the spacer where it contacts the third member).Putting a spacer in shouldn't change any angles on my drive-line either as long as their machined flat, all your doing is adding length.Nobody makes them though as far as I know. they are 60 bucks a pair for samurais,I know that I am not going to get my driveshafts lengthened for any where near that.

Oh yea as long as the spacer is bolted solid to the third mamber flange there shouldnt be any vibration either. After all the flange on the third member isnt balanced. The vibration you get is in the driveshaft especially when it goes through the different angles as it makes it revolution.the long length of the tube amplifies that to.The 3\4 spacer i would like to have is too small and lightweight to do that. I am going to call my local machine shop and get a qoute today

Spacers for samis usually come with the lift kit for them. They don't usually have problems but they also are a lot lighter and only have 60 hp

With a 4" lift, you shouldn't need to make any changes to the rear shaft, however you will need to lenghten the front. If you plan on wheeling it, best bet is to spring for one of the long slip kits from Marlin, Trail-Gear or one of the other vendors (unless you enjoy putting the front shaft back together on the trail) :D

JHNLennon, I stand corrected. I had not heard of them before and never seen any but then again that does not mean anything. Anything is possible now a days, but I would still worry about the bolts.

If you do get one made take some pictures before you mount it, would like to see it. May be a good item to carry with you if you have a shorter shaft as a back up unit depending on the cost of course.
