i'm looking at picking up a dremel tool to do some small jobs with on the cruiser, any recs on a model, the last time i bought one they had one, now they have quite a few. Somehow most of my tools PCS'd to my brothers house while i was deployed.

I like the variable speed models.

I have the Craftsman equivalent, but I got it from my Grandpa who had 2 :meh:

It does all the chit I need. Dremel should be even better.

x2 on the Craftsman variable speed. Very useful tool. I've had mine for about 4 years and it has held up to quite a bit of abuse. I found it a waste of time dealing with the abrasive stones. I bought a small hardened (carbide?) bit from Home Depot a few years ago that has done alot of cutting and still works great.

I have a cordless one that works OK. The one I have is variable speed, I don't know the model number. It came with a charger and a case and a bunch of sander and grinder pieces. I bought it at Wally world for about $40-50.

The Li -ion rechargable, variable speed ones are nice, as they are cordless. I just got one this week, so I don't have much to say except going cordless is a nice plus.
I've owned an XP-400 (model # from memory) that I got with a case full of extra toys for just about $90 a few years ago. It's very nice, and when used on small jobs as intended, I don't find myself reaching for any other tool instead.

I've had that one for a few years and have no issues with it....Its pretty compact and does what it is supposed to....

We've got the Dremel brand corded with the pencil drive extension cord thing so you don't hold the actual Dremel. It gets used about twice a year and is not nearly as handy as many of the "new" multitools are. I am looking at the Fein multi tools and if you do get a Dremel - get carbides as prev posted because the other abrasives aren't worth s***. Unless you work with stained glass or plastice - buy a good, pneumatic air die grinder and carbides for it and then you can tear up just about anything
