or how you can tell the dog your adopting came from a good home:
my Girl knows how much i love German Shepards, so for my birthday she arranged to get one for me to live with my rescued Malamute.
she also knows how much i believe in dog rescue, so she got one (well his grandfather was a rotti, but the other 3 were Shepards) that the owners had to give up. i was a bit sceptical of anyone that'd give up a dog of his age (9), BUT my sceptisism was short lived when they explained the service they purchased. they paid UPFRONT, for a vet to call out to our house, at no cost to us, and visit the dog every 3 months, covering vaccinations, flea treatments, AND delivery of his special Diet. any treatment he needs in the next 2 years will go on their account.
their care obviously has paid off with him. when i first met him, i estimated his age at 4... the only sign he's ageing is the slight grey in his black part of his coat. the geriatric has more energy than my Mal, and her partner in crime, the 2 year old husky cross Lab combined...
he came with 3 beds. his indoor one, his camp cot, and a 2 bedroom kennel, WITH insulation, and a solar powered fan for summer!!!! i mean this kennel stays cooler than OUR HOUSE.
unfortunately the family was moving to Iraq to set up a medical centre, and were just happy someone would take on an older dog. It's good to see how much they valued him, and you can see it in his nature. he's the most placid, friendly dog i've ever met. even the cat dominates him
but it restored some faith in the human race that there were people out there that cared that much for their animals. hopefully i can do him justice and provide him with as much love as they did. i email the family pics of him at least once a month, and they are thrilled that we are keeping them informed. at the moment he's sitting beside me with his head in my lap begging for a pat, but when it cools down a tad outside, we're off the the B E A C H (even spelling the word gets him excited)....
