Yep, by a freaking forklift. I dont know what the hell she was thinking being in the loading zone... She knows its a no-go zone when the forklift is running, but today the truck driver had my grandfathers attention and he didn't see her... She got her nose caught between the wheel and body of the forklift when the wheel was turning... Now she's at the Vet's with lots of doggy pain killer. She could shut her mouth, but would not open it willingly. They said they can reconstruct it. The nasal passages have not been harmed. Looks like a couple of teeth will be removed and some stitches and however they decide to reconstruct it.

Big $$$ but worth it...

I'm glad she's alive and it could have been much worse... Just worked up. Bad day... Had a rear main seal go in the new-to-me Taco i just bought (02, 148k, TRD, etc), the trailblazer (06, 4.2L 6CYL, 64,5XX miles) my grandmother drives has no compression across the board- thinking timing chain, short on a tractor that caused the dash to go up in flames...

Just one of those days and the worst of it was my dog!

Maybe shell get an awesome scar or something...

Sorry to hear. Bet she'll be just fine.

A friend of mine had his yellow lab somehow get into a combine and cut off 2 of her toes on one of her back legs last year. He threw the toes in a cooler and brought the whole "package" to the vet. Sewed them back on and that dog hunts at 100 mph all day long. You'd never guess.

She'll be fine.

Sorry to hear about this. Our past Golden Retriever took a bat in the nose when she was young. My eldest was doing batting practice and we didn't see her run in from the side to get the ball. Luckily the xrays only showed a crack in her nose. After that, she never would chase a ball if we were batting.

Well,

Shes a trooper! They removed over 1" of bone that couldn't be fixed. They had to cut into a nasal passage to wire it back together. She's partially blind in her left eye, has to have the cone on, super supervised, eats all her food liquid, and bleeds out her nose/mouth unwillingly.... Her peers are afraid of her because of they smell and cone (i hope).

Just read this and am sorry to hear about it........but I'm guessing the pup is glad to have a good friend to watch over her during recovery....makes a lot of healing difference.

Hi All:

Hope your pup gets well soon!

Regards,

Alan

You are very lucky: most dogs wouldn't survive a crush injury to the nose. Her healing process will take longer than anybody wants it to, and your job will be to keep her chilled out until the vet says she's fully healed.

My guy goes in for mass removal tomorrow, and it'll be a challenge keeping him quiet for the 10-14 days required.

10 days later and she has been taken off of her pain killer. She was getting so hyper! we started to have the "i want to chew soooooooo bad" look from her eyes as she stared into the crate (vault in her case) that the toys are locked in. Our oldest dog gave in and started welcoming her back. The middle one is a different story. Still keeps her distance. It'll be back to normal before we know it, except for the no chewing and liquid diet thing.

Hey i just read this and hope everything turned out well with your dog, sounds like she was coming along last post hope all is well

Hopefully last surgery tomorrow. She's unsuspecting to say the least. This will be the third, the first one she was on wet food.until march, then in April she opened up a hole into her sinus cavity with a bone she found in some field, and now there is a small infection that was.caused by her a hole that a tooth used to sit in, before it was crushed.
