Update: Cast some test rubber pieces. They fit, but it ain't easy. Just like the originals, the slip over a metal prong and two wing pieces bend to fit behind some metal rails. These might be stiffer than the original, which is ok - I want them to last. Anyway, I drove to the grocery store and back earlier and the rear seat was dead quiet. That's what we want, right?

The only two issues I have now are that I'm unhappy with the texture of the surface and I need to scale up my molds for quantity They 100% work as intended but aren't up to my standards in the looks department. I'm going to sleep on that before deciding a next step.

Definitely interested in a set of these!

Update: Got a path to production-quality pieces now. I went through all the bumpers and found two that were aesthetically ok. There were even 8 more beyond what's pictures that I threw away already. I spent a couple hours sanding them by hand - the resin cures extremely hard. I think these two are as close to perfect as I can get.

Next I'll mold these two (what generation am I on anyway???) and cast a bunch of hard resin copies. When I have a handful of those - maybe 10-14 - I'll mold all of them at once so I have a single mold that can produce in quantity. The urethan rubber has a de-mold time of 4 hours, so casting a pair at a time wouldn't be very efficient.

We're getting close. Then I can get back to my new alternator and alt fuse/wiring project. The valves sound like they need adjustment too. Oh, and I gotta drain the gas tank and rebuild the carb on the Pig 🙄

Ok, I'm thinking I'll have bumpers ready to ship by the end of the week! Disclaimer: these may cause all the other strange noises your truck makes to become more apparent - I can't be blamed for those!

Price is $20/pair shipped with discounts for quantity orders. Yes, I have that much money and time invested.

Here is a list of everybody who expressed interest. What I need is a PM with your name and address if you're wanting to go ahead. No sweat if you've changed your mind, just drop a comment below so I can scratch your name off the list. Payment method to follow - probably Zelle (no fees) or PayPal.

*If you contacted me on Instagram but NOT here on Mud, keep it to IG - I have two lists going and don't want any overlap.

@CruiserTrash , thanks , but i'm good. the rattle in my seat wouldn't be solved with your fine product :flipoff2:
One of my posts comes loose at the seat back every few weeks, so I know how you feel. It's a whole other issue I'm trying to figure out.

Put me on the list please! Would love to buy a pair
PM me your name and address, then watch this thread - I will post PayPal info either here or via PM.

Excellent solution to a common problem. I scored a couple from Classic Cruisers on the way to SAS 3. Installed them and forgot about it.
Always good to see the small things that make a huge difference become available. 🙌

In for a set! Nice work!!

Thanks! I found two at Classic Cruisers on the way home from SAS5 this year 🙂

I had seen a photo of one back in the late winter/early spring and it kept nagging at me: "What the hell WAS that thing? Did Toyota put them there or is a random piece of rubber a guy found? Why doesn't the post fit the latch space? I can't find a single other picture of them...."

A couple 60s have popped up at local junkyards this summer and I found one each from those. I have a total of 4 originals (is that a world record?), and 3 of them are pretty rough.

I definitely would like a pair. Can PP money to you this Friday (as long as my disability from the VA posts).

1st commercial batch of the final urethane rubber pieces poured. It looks pretty messy because this stuff has a 6 minute pot life - gotta pour quick.

I've got that 2nd mold ready for more in about 15 minutes.

Thanks for the patience y'all.
