I called two dealers and each said the something different?

Anyone ever order one who can confirm? I am still trying to compare apples to apples on the cost of a toyota unit vs a rebuild at my shop.

I've installed many when I did my time at Lexus and ALL of the remans came with torque convertors.

Awesome! thanks. The Toyota dealer said it didn't, the Lexus dealer (using the same part number) said it didn't show it in the picture but he thought that it did.

Would you be able to confirm the part number for the 2000 LX trans being 35010-60840-84? Its what Lexus said but i general dont like spending thousands of dollars without secondary confirmation.

Toyota re-manufactured is complete from front to back including torque converter. Only things to move over are neutral position sensor/shift linkage and transfer case lever which attaches to the top rear of the unit...and a couple of wire clip holders...

Referencing you other thread on the two part numbers split on the 2000 model year(08/00 according to an online part site) I don't really know what the difference would be as they should both be A343F with all the same wiring...but there are two part numbers for some reason...whether it's an actual technical reason or a stock age/timeframe reason...again no clue. I have an '01 with 09/00 build date and thus the 35010-6A020-84 was called for and is working great thus far.

Last comment from the peanut gallery regarding rebuild vs re-manufactured. This is my second go round...I cheaped out when my transmission first catastrophically failed and had a local reputable shop rebuild with aftermarket parts. 1) I was afraid of the labor to remove the trans and 2) I was looking for the cheapest option. It was just north of $2000... It lasted ~70K...started throwing torque convert related codes after summer trip last year and finally dropped 3rd/OD last fall.

My local-ish dealer offers a local cruiser club discount, so I ended up with a final price of ~2700 for the re-manufactured unit. A 12 hour Saturday later and there is no reason it shouldn't last the remaining lifetime of the vehicle...

That picture is clutch, I've been talking to the dealer about what exactly is needed to get my core charge and was wondering if I could fit the box in my tsx wagon and it looks like it'll be fine. the last open question with them will be if there Toyota paperwork will accept a Lexus vin because. Of course the Toyota dealership 10 miles away is 700 cheaper then the Lexus dealership

I purchased from a Toyota dealership, there was no real paperwork besides a basic receipt...the parts guy originally asked for a vin to look up part, but I told him it was actually a Lexus and he just said okay. But this particular dealership and their parts department are somewhat Land Cruiser familiar... Overall very painless procedure.

Did you not return your trans for a core? Either way it is all worked out, i am picking the new trans and fluid up Saturday and hopefully returning the core some time late next week.

Yep...paid over phone, showed up when they got it in, loaded it up, brought back the core Monday after weekend install which they refunded to my card and at that point got a single printed out receipt...which I have promptly lost... Hopefully they should have records if I have warranty issues...

How heavy is the trans? Asking because is that something you can do on the floor with some sort of jack or does the car have to be in the air?

Heavy. Not sure exactly, but definitely requires a transmission jack. Well maybe you could cobble something together that would work, but a transmission jack is highly recommended. I did it with front tires on ramps and rear axle on jackstands. With my particular transmission jack, still had to lift the front of the LX a bit to clear everything to roll it out from under the vehicle.

Dang. What happened to your trans to have to replace it?

Short version is in earlier post in this thread, slightly longer version is that I have a 09/00 build date and had a complete failure at 150K that is commonly attributed as most common in 2000 model years Cruisers. Basically a part(bad thrust washer?) in certain years causes a slightly higher than normal failure rate and when it fails it grenades the entire trans. Had it rebuilt locally and only lasted 70K miles, so purchased this Toyota unit and hopefully have messed with the transmission on my LX for the last time...

I also had the 2000 trans failure. In a weird twist the toyota re-man plus labor for install and flushing was cheaper then the costs i was being quoted for a rebuild.

I have swapped transmissions before but it was always for slipping or water failure, since there was clearly going to be metal in the lines i wanted to have the show do it and hot flush the lines in reverse and foreword to be extra safe.

Not to hijack, but does a remanufactured Toyota transmission also come with a new transmission breather skirt (vent)? Or is the old one reused when replacing the transmission? I have an '05 in this VIN range with a remanufactured transmission and am concerned about this:

TRANSMISSION & CLUTCH
TC001-05
Title:
FIFTH GEAR SHUDDER
Models:
'04 - '05 LX 470
January 28, 2005
Introduction

Models affected:
2004-’05 LX 470 vehicles produced before the Production Change Effective VIN: JTJHT00W#53553516

Some 2004 and 2005 model year LX 470 vehicles may exhibit a shudder (or vibration) sensation, usually accompanied by a cyclic droning noise, when lightly accelerating (less than 15% throttle) after the transmission shifts into 5th gear (usually between 35 and 45 mph). This condition may be caused by water entering the transmission breather, contaminating the transmission fluid. The transmission breather has been changed to prevent water intrusion.

Dangg. I have a September of 99 build, but it's a 2000. Do they know what units were affected? I have 212k on mine right now

I believe there is a range somewhere but it's not based on miles or maintenence. mine just went at 160k in the matter of about 30 miles total between first sign and full failure.
