Hi,

Concerning the 1HZ engine without catalysts etc.: Is it possible to obtain some sort of document stating that the 1HZ engine meets the Euro 1 emission standards?Maybe from a type approval or something else.

Thanks in advance,

Lucas Jensen

Yes, must be. My HJZ73 was build in 1995 and got on the road in november of that year.
Euro I started in 1992. I think it even passes Euro II because that was introduced in 1995.

Not sure about the rest of Europe but in the UK second hand or grey imports did not have to go through Euro 1 or 2. and were registered as Emission excempt.. 10000's of cars came in during the 90's. My 2001 Ford Falcon V8 UTE was emission excempt when it came in from Australia in 2004.

Its not just the 1HZ engine that would need to be Euro 1/2 but the whole vehicle. At one time in the UK the 80 Diesel Automatic could not be imported as it would not pass the emission rules yet the manual version would.

On the other LC forum where you asked for a copy of a registration document you have said you are importing a HZJ78 from the UK to Denmark so you need to get the UK registration document (V5) and give this to your country registration department, it cant just be any V5 as its engine number / vin number specific.

If it was possible to do it how you want, the ramifications to stolen cars would huge. Doing it your way if someone steals a car in the UK and could use a photocopy of any V5 to register it, the stolen car would be made official when stolen.

Some 1HZ engine were euro 1/2 but its the specific engine you will have to get past the registration department. Best of luck but i dont think you have much chance without official documentation, you may well also need solid proof of ownership as well

Hi Birder,

You are correct I asked for the same details in another forum. In fact I asked in a lot of different forums because this information is so hard to get and my only solution seems to be private owners of such similar vehicles.

To make it clear: I have not bought a HZJ78 yet. But I'm planning to. I just need to be 100% sure that the officials in Denmark will accept such a new UK registered vehicle (incl V5). I cannot risk a situation where I have paid 25000 pounds for a HZJ78 and when arriving to the Motoring department they will not accept it because some documents are missing.

I do plan to hand in the original V5 to the motoring department in Denmark, but they are also asking for further documentation such as the emissions standards on the car. This is why the information on the 1HZ is cruicial. The 1HZ has been in production for some 20 years and this is why i consider some "old" information to be usefull. So its only to back up the original V5 document.

A HZJ78 is a troopie and these were not registered as new in the UK, just as imports via other countries. To get one in the UK it must be a grey import (Not from Toyota Japan) or imported as a used vehicle. So you need the vehicle V5.

If you are buying one in the UK ask the person who you are buying it from for a copy V5 and take that paperwork to the registration office before you buy it.

1HZ was different emmissions for each vehicle it was fitted so they I doubt they will accept just any 1HZ. Once you have the V5 or can prove ownership I would think Toyota will supply the details you want but they certainly will not if cant give them the details.

There are several people who are wondering just why you are asking, and i think we all wonder if this is all as you say. Something is just not quite right.

A company or person selling you a £25000 vehicle would be only to pleased to supply you the paperwork.

Could i ask where you are buying it from? (PM me)

Got your PM and i suggest you ask the company who you are buying it from.

If its a new vehicle and it coming into the UK officially it has to have the Euro ratings and paperwork to prove it has would be available.

The problem is that i dont think the new HZJ78 meets the euro 4/5 and you are simply trying to find a way round it.

I will call them in the morning as i would buy a new 79 if i could get one, so far I have not found anyone who can import a new one.
