Just went 4 wheeling with my buddy and he's got the 07 f.j. trd. i watched as he tried to climb a little rock hill and shattered:doh: the rear gears. not a very good sound if you've ever heard it before.
So now I'm wondering if the Taco has the same rear end in it?
anyone know out there?

I thought the FJ had 8" an rear with 3.73 gears like the Tacoma V6 Off-road or V6 SR5 (non-Sport model), but in looking at the ARB lockers offered for both trucks, they share the same front locker, but the FJC has a different model number for the rear locker. So maybe not 100% the same?

Early 05 Tacomas had some issues with blown rear ends, but from what I've seen around TTORA and other places, it hasn't persisted as a problem with the later year Tacomas.

Thanks that puts me a little at ease. I pretty much did every on the trail yesterday that the f.j. did. I did get hi-centered at one point but no rear locker noises.
Also dented both passenger doors and rocker a little and I have sliders in the mail guess I shoulda waited a week, but the first dents are the hardest there will be many more to come.
