I'm on my 3rd wire harness and of coarse the left turn signal is done. This seems to happen to all of them.

Anyway as I understand it the factory harness is extremely sensitive to protect the rest of the on board electronics.

Do you guys think that I could wire directly to the lights with a fuse in between the the plug and the actual lights on the rig.

Any help would be appreciated.

Im in the same boat... when it gets wet under the truck the left indicator comes on when I brake.... pisses me off...

I thought the problem with the old factory box / towing converter was resolved with newer units like the link I posted above and below. I recently wired in a new wiring harness from etrailer to replace the bad factory one and also installed a 7 pin converter which I ran separate power, ground and brake controller wires to. I also installed a brake controller which has power and ground coming directly from the battery plus the blue "controller" wire running directly to my 7 pin and the red wire to a brake light switch. Here is what I recently installed.

1 - Toyota Land Cruiser Trailer Wiring Harness - 1999 | etrailer.com
2 - http://www.etrailer.com/p-30717.html
3 - 6 and 7-Way Trailer Connector Mounting Box, 2-1/2" Draw-Tite Accessories and Parts 18156
4 - Brake controller (take your pick)
5 - Dedicated brake controller wiring is run for the brake controller as well as the new 7 pin adapter wiring shown in the above diagrams

Just ordered the etrailer one. I'm 12 days past the one year warranty on the factory harness, I'll try to get it (most likely not). Fingers crossed, it'll be a good backup.

Thanks for the links boys!!!!

I missed part of the OPs original ? Can he direct wire ?

No, You need a converter of some kind to turn the separate taillight and brake light signals (Two lights each with separate functions) of the vehicle into a combined signal (One light, two functions) used on trailers.

The cheap box jgray linked will work (and it's what I have) but may not prevent the trailer from feeding back into the truck's ECUs. An isolated and independently powered converter keeps the truck's electronics safe. Plugging a trailer into the 100 directly is like plugging Christmas tree lights into a laptop.

It's nice to see they have a plug for that connector now - when I did mine, nobody, including Toyota, had a male plug for that connection by the spare. :bang:

So I spliced the source wires there and ran them to an isolated converter I installed near the jack (inside the truck, not outside in the elements). Added the brake wire and power feed and attached all to a 7-pole ABS plastic/brass plug. Works like a charm. Had to replace the housing for the plug though, as the spring on the cap rusted and broke. Pump it full of dielectric grease and it is relatively maintenance free.

Got the etrailer harness on Firday. Installed it and it works great, and the best part its only $27 not the unholy $100 the dealer charges. Thanks guys for finding it!!!!

FYI: The 2007 uses a different harness (and probably a 2006 as well). 2007 Toyota Land Cruiser Trailer Wiring Harness | etrailer.com

It's $34.95. Figures... :D

***EDIT: The harness above will NOT work on a 2006 or 2007 Land Cruiser as it specifically says under FEATURES: "Will NOT work on a Toyota Land Cruiser with LED Tail Lights". I called customer service and they are going to have their Tech Dept verify that it would NOT work, and if it won't, they will update the website accordingly.

Nice... Anybody have an OEM harness from a 06/07 they don't need?

I've been very happy ordering through etrailer. Great website, super fast shipping, good prices... I'm not affiliated with etrailer but I was impressed with my last transactions through them. I will definitely purchase from them in the future.

When I ran a 2002 LC on etrailer it came up with a different part for 34.95. Is there any difference between the 99 and 02? Can I run the 99 part? Looks alot easier to install... Oh and I don't have a towing package, so I'm starting from scratch.
