I just joined today and I was wondering how difficult it would be to take the diff lock off a 1998 pickup I have and put it on my 1994? First of all, and this may be a dumb question, but where can I find out the gear ratios of both trucks. One is a '94 SR5 V6 4X4 pickup and the other is a '98 4X4 Tacoma 4-banger. Any input would be great

look for a manufacturer's plate on the driver side door and you will see something like AT/M and or something like this G144 for the 94 and B04A for the 98. The gear ratios are totally different from each truck, you may get a 4.88 or your 94 if it comes with an automatic tranny and 4.10 on your 98 if also comes with an auto tranny.

It should not be hard to removed the diff lock switch from 98 to be installed on your 94 however if you are talking about the diff lock in the axle, you need to modify the axle on 94 to fit the diff lock and then you have to regear the diff lock to match the gearin on the front axle.

You need to do a lot of searching here and at http://www.yotatech.com

Oh by the way, Welcome to the forum Newbie! :flipoff2:

Hey scotty, Good luck with that!!

I'm getting started on that now. I have a '95 runner axle housing as the donor and a taco 3rd w/ the elocker. I regeared it to 4.88's.
