I recently engaged the diff lock on my 09 LC. I then could not get it out of the lock mode despite pushing the button while the vehicle was stationary. I ended up driving with the lock mode for a few minutes. It got disengaged after I pushed the diff lock button while the car is moving at a slow pace. Anyone with this disengagement issue? Does it require the vehicle to be moving + the button pushed to get it disengaged?

You should be rolling when you engage and disengage the CD. You can do it when stopped, but it may take a bit to lock/unlock. Toyota warns you NOT to engage the CD WHEN you need it, but BEFORE you need it.

So its not unusual to have it take a little while to engage and disengage the DL. Good to know. thanks

Well, I'll give you an easier way to do it. We do this in the Middle East and it helps. To a truck driver, it makes sense to float gears instead of double clutching. Floating gears means you can't have pressure against the gears. One way to do this is to put pressure on the gears, the abruptly release the throttle to let the gears float. It helps the gears come out easy and fast.

So try this, when you engage the CDL, let off the throttle instantly and you'll here it click. When you turn it off, gas it, then let off the throttle instantly and it'll disengage.
