I grenaded my rear diff yesterday at our local ORV park. Just wondering what other rear carriers are interchangeable with it. Finding another carrier, so far, has been a challenge. From what I've read the 96-up 4 runner rear carriers are the same save for gear ratios and LSD/lockers. Can anyone confirm?

I appreciate any input.

Climbing up an obstacle I probably shouldn't have. Couldn't crawl over and instead of backing out I went balls out. Made it over but heard a loud pop and bang when the right rear tire hit the ground. Had to pull the rear driveshaft and limp the truck back to the road where I could get a tow. Horrible grinding and banging the whole way. Rear wheels locked a couple times, had to back up and ease back forward. The whole rear end felt like it was going to fall out. I'm assuming the ring and pinion is broken, although I haven't had a chance to pull the third member yet. All in all, one bad decision and poor judgement is what grenaded my diff.

Plenty of options in stock. LSD, Locker, Open, Ratio of choice. We offer complete assembled 3rd members or parts to repair yours

As for interchangeability, 96 wont work. they would be interchangeable with some 03+ 4runners or with some FJ Cruisers, but the OE diffs had thier share of issues.

I'm thinking of swapping a complete FJ rear assembly into it, that way I can delete the airbags at the same time. As long as the ratio is the same 3.727 and open, it should bolt right in for all intense purposes if I'm not mistaken. I know I'll need springs and upper bump stops. Can't really think of anything else. Input?

If you do this, you should Either install a 2010+ FJ cruiser rear or a GX460 rear as then you will get the 8.2 diff.

But otherwise it would be less $$ and easier to rebuild your 3rd member or swap a built unit in.
