I was looking to buy a rear bumper to replace my stock one, I wanted to know what do you guys recommend a Slee, Hanna, or Kaymer rear bumper (which out of the 3, would give me better departure angle when wheelin?). I like the extra protection form hanna's bumper, but I like the look of slee's. Any pics you want to post up please feel free. :D

With no actual numbers to back it up, the slee and hanna should be very similar in terms of departure, with the kaymar having less due to the hitch hanging down. If you are serious about departure then you need to do a frame chop and go custom.

The hitch comes off a Kaymar leaving the mount only hanging down an inch or so lower than the rest of the bumper. More limiting to departure angle is the high lift not being at a 45 degree angle. The base of the high lift is even with the bottom of the tire but nowhere near as flexible as rubber. My tailgate has a dent to prove it. More important in my opinion is that Kaymar isn't boxed, as are Slee, Hanna, and Iron Pig Offroad bumpers.

I've seen a 35 on one and I'm betting it can handle a 37. Lance doesn't own any small tires.

I would go with the slee. After seeing pics of them and on some of my club members vehicles the slee looks better to me. The departure angle I am not sure of but the slee's bumper looks like it has the best. Oh and they are strong as all get out because a guy in the Georgia Cruisers has one and went to Moab last year and that thing saved his cruiser cause he was scraping all over the place in the rear when rock crawling. But when i get one hopefully soon im probably getting a custom one from Urban Landcruiser.

The Kaymar will be the worst of the three you mentioned for departure angle. At Cruiser Moab last year, Pismo Jim got hung up pretty bad on his Kaymar when trying to go up an obstacle.

The Hanna and Slee will be about the same for departure angle.

The best I've seen so far would be the one from 4x4labs (www.4x4labs.com), however, it involves cutting and welding of the rear cross member as part of the installation.

Or this one:

I like this one best. Saw it in action on the Rubicon on Pat Takash's truck and was very impressed.

I have the Kaymar, and it is a wonderful, versatile bumper. For expeditionary use, it is hands down the best. But for purely rock-crawling, it has some problems (mainly the aforementioned integrated hitch). However, some of us locals have some plans to rectify that situation with a bit of torch and plasma work.

Why do you say the Kaymar is best for expedition wheeling?

( I own one too.)
