I have been up to my earholes in HIH stuff. I'm in for a route a few days prior. I need to get to Silverton on Wednesday or early Thursday morning though, so, I may have to boogie ahead after the first night. There is some setup and logistics that need to be taken care of (signage, camp area inspection, etc.)

I may have to come in late Thursday night if I cant back from OR the day before. I will post up when I know more.
If I can get away Thursday morning(dawn), I would like to head down 285 to 50. Fuel and coffee in Gunnison. Then on to 149 South skirting the Blue Mesa Reservoir, take pictures finish coffee. Then head 30 miles past Lake City to pick up 520.

My intent is to reverse this route.
Stony Pass

The Pole Creek crossing might be of concern due to the snow melt. Will need to gather more information on its level closer to departure.
Forest Road 520 follows the Rio Grande.
Looks to be a 2 mile hike of off 520
37°47'30.4"N 107°32'34.4"W
will take you along the Colorado Trail to the Head Waters of the Rio Grande.
37°47'52.1"N 107°32'18.6"W

My kid and I will likely leave on Wed morning for Creede, lots of rock hounding sites in that area.

BTW anyone interested at a pre-HIH gathering maybe a day-drive some nearby trail, to get to know each other and maybe help set up/tune CB?

We're going to be kicking around in central/southern CO all week and our plan was to arrive on Wednesday in Silverton. If there's anything I can help you with to help get set up let me know.

Still working on our route down there but it will most likely be starting the Friday or Saturday the weekend before, camping our way down there a couple days at a time.

Would anyone be interested in doing a local trail run in the next few weekends? I think it would be cool to meet a few front range folks prior to HIHs and maybe caravan out Thursday morning. We will be taking 285 to 50, was thinking about checking out Black Canyon, then onto 550 to Silverton.

My wife and I are out on the trails nearly every weekend and figured why not see if others are interested in getting something together. (This weekend won't work, will be out in Crested checking out Schofield/Lead King Basin)

BTW, my name is Will and I live in Fort Collins. Hello!

I'll be heading out Thursday morning from Fort Collins, was also thinking of taking 285 - haven't really pinned down exact timing or anything yet.

I am now able to leave Weds. Does everyone still have the same plans stated here?

What route are you taking over to Silverton? Going to do any trails? Any updates on trails with all the rain? Still thinking of Stony Pass route.

Will this will add time but there is a nice route off of 50 over Owl Creek Pass into Ridgway. Here is a general idea of the route but please check it out for yourself to confirm the route.

Still taking the same route? What time on Weds you thinking of heading out? My son and I will be itching to go after I finish work tomorrow night.

We'll leave around 8am, maybe a bit later but no later than 9am. There's 2-3 sites at Creede where we'll look for fossils and amethyst. We'll likely stop briefly near Salida to look for feldspar and jasper. If you guys want to join us, just bring safety glass/goggle and a small hammer (and a small chisel and putty knife if you have them), and we'll figure out a place to meet.
