Well, I suppose HIS name is Bruiser. The PO informed me of that right before we parted ways at the Denver airport. In keeping with the tradition of changing a vessel's (usually a boat) name bringing bad luck, his name shall remain.

The weather for the trip home sucked, but I did snap a few pics. Here is a random sampling. I should have some wheeling pics in a couple of weeks. They will definitely be more interesting than these.

Enjoy:

My expression most of the time on this trip. I'm smiling on the inside after making Bruiser mine.

Jumped the median and headed back westbound to get this shot. My first wheeling in Bruiser! I'm such a dork, I actually threw on the lockers just to exercise them. :D

I wasn't even driving the speed limit 99% of the time. A foreign concept for someone from Atlanta.

Last state sign pic. The weather got too bad to take any of the remaining states.

GPS as I pulled into our driveway
1390 miles
Made it in under 24 hours travel time (turned GPS off during 4 hour nap in Kansas)
Pretty proud of 65.5 mph moving average and almost 60 mph overall average
Stopped for gas only (made sure food was close by to minimize time spent off the interstate) so just over 2 hours of 23.5 spent sitting still

All in all, it was a great trip. The weather sucked, but it was a good time to get to know my new Landcruiser. I absolutely love it and I can't wait to be impressed off-road. I am already impressed with the on-road manners. I had the Toyo's aired up to 55 to try to squeeze out a few more mpg. Overall, I averaged just over 13 for the 1300 miles. Pretty good with a lift, bigger tires, roof rack and running 65-70. I'm sure I can get better than 14 with no roof rack.

Anyway, enough rambling. Let's get in the woods! Hope to see some of you on the trail soon!

Nice looking truck and great pics!! Cant wait to see it on the trail!!

truck looks really great. Cannot wait to see it on the trail.

Matt,

I am glad that you made it back safe. You truly put the reliability and history of the Land Cruiser to test with that weather that you drove through. I am sure that the full time 4wd and tank like ride was nice to have in that wind, rain, hail, tornado weather. I can't wat to get Bruiser dirty!

Might need to sneek over to the places I took ya.

Congrats! I managed 14 MPG running 80 MPH to cruise Moab in 2004 (geez, has it been that long ago?) with 33 MTRs, ARB front bumper, no roof rack and 2.5 inch lift.

Nice Rig. Great adventure even in bad weather.
