Just purchased my 2009 LC a few weeks ago. All was well until a couple of nights ago. Since then when I turn my headlights on the navigation screen starts cycling through the screens on it's own. It immediately goes to the navigation destination screen, then to climate, then to audio, then to bluetooth phone. Sometimes it cycles very quickly other times it will stay static for 30 seconds or so. The surrounding buttons are rendered unusable. The rear defroster also turns on and off as it's cycling. As long as the headlights are off everything works fine. I dropped it off at Toyota this morning and they just called me stating that the screen is defective. Does this sound right? I feel like it's more of a electrical short issue since it only happens with the headlights on. Any thoughts? Anyone run in to this? Thanks in advance.

Before you toss down a single dime, I would ask for a complete diagnostics that points them to this conclusion, including how the display interfaces with the headlight circuit. Until they can provide an acceptable explanation... the answer is NO!

I could be wrong...and it's hard to confirm from my hospital bed... BUT...

...Could it be as simple as the steering wheel Mode button being stuck down, or stuck activating this mode-change thing?

Or perhaps a malfunction in the entire steering wheel button set?

The mode button would change the stereo inputs, but not cause the rear defroster to come on... make the surrounding buttons unusable, nor should it have anything to do with the headlights.

I'm leaning more towards a wiring harness short.... maybe in the steering column since the headlights and steering wheel based controls all route through there, but the rear defroster has me buffalo'd!

I just picked it up. They are standing behind it being the screen. I disagree due to the fact that it functions perfectly when the lights are not on. I will experiment a bit this evening and see what I can come up with. I agree with you guys that it feel like a wiring issue or a short. The rear defroster comes on every time it reaches the climate screen and then turns off after it changes to another screen.

Can you just turn your screen off like I do on my 100 series? I never change any setting so no reason to turn it on and I change the stereo setting on the searing wheel.

little update.... when I left the Toyota dealership I turned my headlights on and everything worked fine. Screen did exactly what it was supposed to and a buttons functioned properly. Later that evening it started back up again, this time it didn't continue to change screens, it would just switch to the destination screen and stay there, however it did render all of the button unusable again. As soon as I turn the headlights off everything works perfect. I'm convinced it's a short in the headlight circuit somewhere.
