I think we should powder coat it anyway.

In the daylight, I found about half a dozen more scuff marks, and a couple of scratches that didn't go thru the paint like the first pic I posted. So I went ahead and dry mounted the pan so I could move forward with building the cart. The pan sits 1/2" off the deck.

Edit: Shout out to @kulangot for his recommendation that I purchase a battery-powered impact driver. I bought it two years ago, but didn't get to use it before. Setting the long lag screws [and even the short ones] in the wood was no longer a ratchet-fest. DeWalt 18v buzzed it together, aided by a framing nailer for the main structure.:grinpimp:

More than a little something.

No, It has been polished just like a aluminum rim on a car. It will require some cleaning every so often. It was polished out just like a valve cover on a show car.

@DSB345 just curious are you having the valve cover clear coated or sealed to keep it from oxidizing?

Dave

I dug this out of the garage this morning. Can start work on it Friday when I return...after picking up the plating...after reassembling your four wheel drive shifters...after reassembling your parking brake! Phew, no wonder I'm leaving town!

Bling alert!

I'll say this - first time I've seen someone have a fan shroud plated , that is going to be a very interesting engine bay....

Sarge

As far as I can tell, plated shrouds started around 1969. This info is anecdotal; oldest unmolested rig I have pulled a plated shroud out of. They don't pop up very often, but I have pulled them out of rigs up to 1978. If I hadn't seen one in a '78, I wouldn't have suggested it to Dave. He has a perfectly good black one.

Owing to the fact that on at least one occasion a plated shroud has showed up with an extra shiny spot that had been protected by a factory sticker, I also have reason to believe that Toyota delivered plated shrouds as OE replacements for a time.

Trivia from the cruiser geek.

I got a few of the parts bolted on before I went home last night.
