I think they call it OCD :)
Thank You

I talked with Dave for an hour yesterday while I was finishing up the reseal on the trans and cleaning up more hardware for the build.

I blame a bit of this on an off-hand comment from @Splangy about a resto for sale that did not have the correct hose clamps on it. Well, since I had a cooling system overhaul on-deck for my swb anyways, I figured what the heck, I'll get some old clamps beadblasted and re-zinced. Next thing I know I am well on my way down the OCD rabbit hole. Then Dave showed up. So at least I've got company. We're kind of egging each other on.

Haha. I only made that comment because the truck had hardware store clamps and the seller claimed all of the hardware was factory original.

[Dave, sorry for the hijack]

Jeff

I actually have to thank you. Your comment was a much-appreciated spark. My truck has languished for many years, and only went under the knife again in preparation for selling it. Nobody believed me all the years I took it to shows and told people it was more fun to build than to own. Well now that I've gone OCD into the re-rebuild, I've rediscovered that joy. I still don't think that I will keep the truck, but this time I'm hoping to hang on to the feeling.

Replating period-correct hardware is something I've wanted to do, but just couldn't get motivated enough to do. Redoing those hose clamps was a spark, and having David show up, wanting the same kind of detail, just put more fuel on the fire. I'm having a hard time keeping track of billable hours on his job, as I'm just having so much fun pulling obscure stuff off the shelf for myself, stuff I didn't have yet when I did the original build, and going to town, it's like getting paid to play.

I owe you a few    when we meet.

[hijack off]

For my birthday, I decided to take the old girl out for a little adrenaline rush. :steer::cheers:

Dave, should I be worried? You know there's already a Jag-ota conversion out there!

Happy B-Day. We just had B-day brunch today for my wife.

Top that baby up while you've got it out with the cheapest premium we've seen in this century!

Btw happy birthday... Mine is coming up ... But... I will not be driving like I'm Magnium

Clear out that carbon :)

We had an 80' in at one point when working in a shop billion years ago ... I got to throw out the spark plugs lol I worked on the inferior Pantera :)

Magnificent car ... Happy birthday

Happy Birthday Dave!!

I hope you had a great drive, the 308 looks awesome!

Back to business. Just unpacked the oil pan in preparation to install it. It was completely covered in bubble wrap...at some point. But it has one noticable scratch and several scuff marks. Take a look and let me know. My gut tells me that they are all gonna show up with some scuffing, but it's your call if you want me to send it back.

I think we should powder coat it anyway.

Now I'm smiling, with a big case of deja vu Dave. I SWEAR I'm not making this up.

The last oil pan I had powdercoated was for a lady I was putting an engine in for. Her 40 was also a 78. And get this! it was resprayed the exact same color of green as yours, over what was originally freeborn red! WOW!

I did all the tin on her motor because she was having the truck shipped to Sweden when I was done with it. IIRC, I still have one of the hardtop side panels from that rig that I replaced in my storage building, so I can show you the paint match. It would be kind of a spooky concidence if it weren't for the fact that she was also a very nice customer, who also gave me a lot of latitude in building her rig.

Somewhere in the forum is the story of a mystery hole in her firewall next to the gas pedal.

I guess I won't be putting the motor on the new dolly tomorrow.
