Does anyone have any idea what the magnetic reed switch is for in the early (pre 1979) FJ40 speedometer? Just curious.

Too keep the needle steady
IIRC it is part of the rather crude emission control system. Works as a speed sensor.

That's kinda what I thought, but I wasn't sure. There is an "emissions COMPUTER" in a tiny 3" cubed box that is sitting in a plastic bin in my garage. Probably what that's all about. Thanks Nick!
