I know it's still months out, but are any of you guys/gals planning on going down there? Looks like it's scheduled for September 25th this year, though that's about all the information I've found about it. I've PM'd boots4 concerning details and registration.

That'll be the first (as far as I can tell) major organized event that I'll be able to attend and was wondering if anyone else was going to hit it up.

Anyone been to any of the previous Cruisin' the Woods?

They look like they were pretty decent, certainly a wide enough range of trails for different level builds.

I'll probably be heading down, any information on the facilities/past experiences from road tripping it down there would be appreciated. If you guys were already looking at organizing some sort of trek down there, I'd certainly be interested in joining you.

I went down two years ago, great event. I will have to wait until my son's football schedule is released, if we have a bye that weekend then I'm in! As coach I have to be there...

Ah, very cool!

After posting this I realized you guys had a thread at the bottom of this page regarding last years event, kind of missed that one

Isn't it about a 6 hour drive one way? Would you leave on Friday? I'm interested but couldn't leave till Friday evening.
ps. appreciate the long range planning.

Heck Yeah!!!

Mike you know I'm game to roll. Just let me know the place and time. It would be a good way to try out the new rigs, maybe meet some new people. Can't go wrong there.

Yeah man, though it's still quite a ways out I imagine at least the :princess: or I would be working Friday, so that evening would probably be it.

Sounds like a nice little road trip!

We'll probably have a group going down again this year. It's a fun event. The obstacles are short trail sections connected by forest service roads. Some obstacles/trails are easy, some are damned difficult. You can bypass any obstacle you wish. There is a checkpoint at the start of each obstacle where you get your playing cards and participate in a game for additional cards/stuff. Camping at Brown's Camp is fine. There seems to be plenty of room for everyone. It got into the 20s at night last year, so bring warm clothes.

It's 1 to 1-1/2 hours out of Portland, so about 4-1/2 hours to get there from the Seattle area. You need an Oregon OHV sticker (like $15 for a two year sticker). You can get one at the Gales Creek Shell station, on the south side of Hwy 6 about 10 miles before the turn-off for Brown's Camp.

A group of guys from Rain Country was also there last year, so it's a good way to meet other Puget Sound people.

Sounds like a good time. Do most people bug out after the Saturday run, or does everyone typically stick around to camp out that night?

I think we'd plan on staying Saturday night, see if there isn't a jolly good time to be had.

With JACKELL Offroad in the mix, there is always a good time to be had. It'll be my first weekend out after a long year absence, so I plan on taking full advantage of the entire weekend. Break the rigs in, and let the pups stretch their legs out a bit too.

:beer::beer::beer: INDEED!!!

The group dinner is after the poker run and the prize giveaway/raffle is after the dinner, so pretty much everybody camps Saturday night and clears out on Sunday.

Probably only 3-1/2 hours max from Shelton.

Best way to do it if you can't get there until late Friday, is plan to camp with somebody who can arrive at Brown's Camp sooner and get a large enough campsite for everybody in the group. That way, when you pull in Friday, in the dark, you just need to locate your group and set up your tent.

No beer, no bullets? I hope that regulation is just for the trails.
Thanks Spot for the info. This will be our first road trip as a family.
I might be able to save us some campsite fees with my disabled vetrans card, that is if it's an Oregon State campsite. There is no limit on party size.

• No Alcohol or Firearms

I'll have beer. Just sprung for a fridge, you'd better believe I'll have beer :ban:

Beer? Heck yes. I agree with Mike. I just spent a whole year sober over here in the desert. I'm thirsty brother.

Blind man's tongue?

Mike,

This might be the perfect time to introduce some fellow cruiser heads to the blind man's tongue. I guess we will see how things go.:hhmm:

Count me out as far as the blind man's tounge goes, but as far as Cruisin the woods goes I am 100% for sure going. I took the whole week off and plan on going to see the Grand Canyon and working our way back up to Oregon. I need to find a place near the trails to stash my FJ40 for a few days so we can road trip without the trailer.

Browns Camp OHV Staging Area is located two miles off the summit of the Wilson River Highway. It is popular staging area for off-highway vehicles (OHV).

The campground has 29 campsites, vault toilets and drinking water from a hand pump. Each site offers a picnic table and a fire grate.

The day use area has trail access, an unloading ramp, picnic tables, fire pits, and vault toilets.

The campground and staging area are currently closed for the season. For 2010, the campgound and staging area will open on April 1st and close on November 1st.
The fees for campsites are:
Vehicle site$10.00/night (first-come, first-serve; no reservations)Extra vehicle$2.00/night

Yeah you're probably right, better save that for some time down the road when everyone is a little more familiar with each other. It'll really catch you off guard if you don't understand where it's coming from.

Looking for some personal property near Brown's camp that I can store a trailered FJ40. Please pm me if you have contact info (boots4?). I'd drop off on Tuesday and pick up Friday. If not I guess I'll search Craigslist.

Did you ever hear back from Boots4? I have not been able to find a schedule of events. We plan on arriving Saturday around 11 am and heading back to Portland around 6. If it wasn't for SpotCruiser's comment about Gale's Creek Shell I would not have ever found the place. It is right on the border of two counties and MapQuest was giving me a real hard time. Any information would be nuch appreciated maybe I'm overlooking it somewhere?
