Was wondering if you were going to start a thread. Pretty excited about this one, hope to see some recent McGrew faces here. Pot Luck Style Dinner?

Matt, pleasure meeting you, Erin and the kids, I am sure the group we caravaned with will be there.

Last year we camped starting Thurs. nite, Set up on FRi. then ran a bunch of trails late afternoon into the night.
It was my FJ's first taste of off-road!

I will probably be working a checkpoint or spotting/winching an obstacle. My daughter will be handling t-shirt sales.

I met with Metal Tech and the Trails Team the other night and Mark was still trying to get them to commit (not sure of outcome).

The run starts with a tech inspection, ORV permits required.

2ndly a short driver meeting, then 2 groups are formed, one starting on the trail, one starting at the tech course (articulation ramp, see-saw balance ramp and maybe other challenges.)

This is a poker run, all drivers are given cards at various checkpoints, best hand at the end wins $$$. You also earn points through out the run, competing at different challenges/games at each checkpoint, highest scores also win prizes.

After the run, you are treated to an awesome BBQ, chicken or steak and all the trimmings. followed by the award ceremony and then everyones favorite THE RAFFLE! (Casacde Cruiser members are not allowed to participate, so there is a lot of goodies for all the guest participants!)

This run is open to all vehicles, last year we saw some awesome entries, even an all-wheel drive toyota van!

For any serious obstacles there are bypasses, for those not willing to try the challenge. This is an awesome opportunity to wheel with some of the best, challenge your own abilities and see what your FJ can really do. THIS IS NOT A RACE! This is a safe and well run event.
I hope to see many of you up there, you will not be dissapointed.

Thank you all-Bill

Sounds like a really great time, I am hoping Erin will be able to go with me but if not it will be at least me and the kids. So I should wait to become a cascade cruiser member then until after the raffle? :D Or am I already one? Hoping to have some sliders from Metaltech by that run so I can do the hard stuff without the body damage.

What's the scoop on the OHV permit? Price and where to get?
Just curious right now. Thinking about it but it's the same weekend as the handbrakes birthday. Not too sure how that would pan out. And no, she wouldn't be going.
Thanks,

Well they are $10.50 per vehicle good for 2 years, but if you have one from CA it is honored in Oregon http://www.oregon.gov/OPRD/ATV/reciprocity.shtml

You can get the Oregon one though if you don't want one from CA at any of these fine establishments: http://www.oregon.gov/OPRD/ATV/permit_vendors.shtml

When I went a few years ago, no ORV permit was needed because we were only there for something like less than 7 days. Not sure if the rules have changed. That is also why we do not require the OR ORV permit for CA attendees on McGrew.

this is a great event, probably the most fun poker run I have done.

TRT2 this came from the Oregon OHV frequently asked question section.

Where does my permit allow me to ride?
Public land that has specific areas designated for off-road use. Contact the local land manager for specific details on designated trails and riding areas.

I am from out of state, is my homestate permit valid in Oregon?
An ATV/OHV operating permit that is issued in another state shall be honored in the State of Oregon if the issusing state also honors an Oregon ATV operating permit. The ATV must have a resident state ATV/OHV operating permit or a State of Oregon ATV operating permit to operate the ATV on designated ATV areas. A State of Oregon ATV operating permit may be issued for all terrain vehicles owned by a resident of another state that does not have a permitting program. For a list of states that have reciprocity with Oregon, please visit the Reciprocity Information Page.

What is the penalty for operating without a permit and decal in designated areas?
A person who operates an off road vehicle in a designated off road area or trail without a permit and decal is subject to a Class C traffic violation, which imposes a maximum fine of $180

I am not really in favor of having to pay more money to buy a permit to use public land that I already pay for. But if it helps keeps our one tenth of one percent of public land in Oregon open to ORV then I cant yell to much!

Anyway I hope this helps.
