I went with Toyota reman through the dealer and was able to pick up within a few days. Stock shows limited, but I think @Cruisers and Co can hook you up too.
We do have a Mud member @Ruben C that offers discounts to Mud members. Maybe he can offer a solution for the core charge with a trans that doesn’t match up?

I am assuming you paid the core charge as well? Is it at all possible to not pay the core charge? I am guessing not. Either way, going reman with warranty seems like a no brainer.

The very first page of this thread said that it had to be an A750F from a later model land cruiser in order to fit/work properly, these don't seem to be as easy to find, the car-part.com link shows none in my area and only 3 or 4 units within 200 miles of me. Prices starting at $2500
I would be surprised if there are actual differences between the 06 A750F and a 2018 A750F. Visually, from the car-part photos, they look exactly the same.

Not the best comparison, but they look visually the same. Would be awesome if Cruisers and Co could chime in if the 100 series unit MUST be used for whatever reason as the 4runner A750F is significantly cheaper (likely cheap enough to buy, rebuild, modify to work if needed).

All the vehicles that used the A750F (off wiki):

A750F

5 Speed Automatic Transmission(4x4)

Applications (calendar years)
The 4R seems to be the cheapest, along with the Tacomas.

This was stated earlier in the thread

"
LC100 and LX470 have the HF2A transfer case- passenger drop front and rear, long 19 spline output shaft on the transmission.

All other vehicles that came with the A750 (4runner, GX470, FJ cruiser, Tacoma) have a VF4 transfer case - driver drop front and center drop rear, 23 spline short output shaft."

Ah, okay, your comment made me go way back and I found the tread. It feels like the price difference almost makes it worth the effort to buy the cheaper $500 transmission and swap the output shafts.

Interesting information. If only smog could go away for 25yo+ vehicles in CA...

Why isn’t this modification carb compliant? And when I took my 80 in to get smogged the guy didnt look at the transmission from what I remember.

Also confirm that the extension housing is the same, historically the cruisers do not share the same tcase pattern as the rest of the line-up.

If it was possible Jonny would have said so. 🤷‍♂️

No body’s checking transmission at smog checks !!

What have the sources been for the proper A750?
Dealer, Junkyard, or from WAT via C&C

Gotta pay the core charge

The first nor the second pic is not an LC unit

The mandatory usage of that valve body is a deal breaker for me (unfortunately).
Also curious why? The VB allows us full control over the transmission.

Different extension housing than the other ones. The LC has a 6 bolt pattern

To put it bluntly, opening a Toyota Renan Trans to place an aftermarket valve body will void the warranty. If the warranty is not important, get after it.
$4k (reman) vs smiles per gallon is worth the risk. Life is too short to be penny pinching-enjoy today brotha! 😎
