Johnny, what was the thought process on going with the A750 and not using the ZF8, for example? Just curious if this is really a step one of alternatives?
Easy! Just like keeping the 1FZ and turbo charging it instead of creating an LS kit for the 80... I like my Toyotas Toyota and the A750 fits that bill

Also comes down to the following:
  • The A750 is extremely Robust and should get another 300K+ out of it as long as it is taken care of. This is highly proven when looking at 100 series
  • Ease of installation - should be a 2-day job
  • No floor, transfer case, crossmember or driveshaft mods required
  • Minimal wiring - ALMOST Plug and Play... just a few wires need cut and spliced. Where those splices happen is really easy to get to.
  • The gearing is great (hi & low) - if you've ever driven an early vs late 100 you know how much of an improvement the a750 was over the 343.
  • Computers - the Compushift is extremely robust, proven and the backing/support for it is incredible - won't find the same level of support with many of the other TCUs out there and will likely be on your own for tuning any other unit. This will come pre calibrated for the 1FZ stock computer and we will develop a tune to pair with aftermarket ecu's
  • Interior stays stock, no need for a new shifter
  • Can get reman units from Toyota
  • Support from WAT - they know these units inside and out
  • Torque convertor lock up in any gear automatically or manually

Speaking of which, I don't remember it being mentioned if you intend to offer this on the early 100s? How much of the way is already paved with your development on the 80?

Thanks, Johnny. All makes sense!

Looking forward to seeing the price point for the 94 and earlier kits. I am going to call my parts guy at the local Toyota dealer and see how much that reman transmission is going to set me back.

@Mag71k5 I would like to see something like this mated up to an 1HD FTE like what is in your setup. Actually I think that is what Dirty 30 has from 4wd 24/7.

Actually after doing some digging the video on the 1st or 2nd page of this thread proves that he does use the 750 with a 1HD FTE. My mind is racing as is my wallet... LOL

In time we likely will. The early 100 suffers like the 80, where do you get a replacement 343? The a750 already bolts into the 100 so it’s really just getting the electronics sorted and happy

A750 came stock behind the 1HDFTE in some markets.

@OffRoadScott There are a few differences between the gas and diesel variants, this thread covers a bit. Id definitely research before diving in if you're going diesel.

Im saving up for a 8HP70X kit to go behind my FTE. It'll be a few months before I have any real updates though.

Max factory horse power and torque on that was also 202hp and 317ftlbs on intercooler versions only too. Non intercooler version it is 167/280, most the 750 FTEs though will have the higher hp/torque engine.

Cheers

What might those markets be?

Sslightly off-topic but is there an aftermarket trans controller out there already that can provide lock-up and tuning of shift points for the A750F on a first gen Tundra?

Yes, the compushift controller from HGM electronics can control any a750 and provide lock up automatically or manually
