I ran a magnaflow 11229 muffler and a real little cat on mine - all 3" stainless - and it's just a tad too loud on the highway. Gonna add a resonator to the back as soon as time allows. For reference, 20 year old me would say it sounds badass, like my Supra, and leave it. 45 year old me wants it quieter on the long trips.

I got old and it sucks.
I was tired of my Magnaflow on the highway as well and added a Vibrant SS resonator. 3 x 45* SS pipes cut up and welded with the resonator tacked in. The sound is much more tame than straight muffler.

Also took my 80 back to the dyno and tossed it on after Jim's 55 for a quick pull.

For Reference when we started this journey my 80 made 138 Hp and 191 ftlbs on a stock engine that was rebuilt by Robbie w/ 1mm over pistons. After Stage 1 turbo @ it jumped to 210 Hp and 290 ftlbs.

Recently we have completed the following work on my 80:
  • 3" Stainless Exhaust
  • Installed our FMIC
  • Completed the A750F Transmission swap
So, we did a pull in 3rd gear with the torque converter locked and while it took a while to go from 1000 to 5000 because you are never starting at 1000 rpm the result was astonishing.... 292 Hp and 416 ftlbs w/ boost peaking at 8.4 psi. Hard to believe that bump in power but having driven the truck pre and post it is certainly putting power to the ground much more efficiently with the new transmission. It floats down the road and is much less of a "tractor"

Ahhh, love the sound of a turbo straight 6!
Do you know what ramp rate the dyno was using?

Johnny, who makes your front bumper? Looks good!

So my turbo is installed and I’ve got a noise that sounds like knock. Really hard to tell where it’s coming from. 4000+ RPM only when under boost and load. To sanity check this I clamped open the wastegate actuator to bypass the turbo and took it to redline. No noise without boost. Running 93 octane gas on a motor with less than 15000 miles on it. I’ve attached a YouTube vid of it. Any help is appreciated.
Edit to add timing is set at 3 BTDC

Sounds like the engine torqueing over and fan blade hitting the shroud or a loose wire or something.

Possibly a valve train issue.

It is not a lower end issue.

A bottom end issue at high rpm is very rapid.

Pinging sounds nothing like that.

Can you feel it when it happens?

No. Cannot feel it. I’m going to hook up my chassis ears tomorrow and try to pinpoint where it’s coming from. I will inspect fan shroud and anything else that moves under the hood as well

Sounds like drive shaft or wheel speed .. not engine speed.
