I'm trying to remember if this was before or after this trail got REALLY out of hand

Was that a Longfield/RCV or a normal birf?

And why did the steering have to come off?

Stock. This is breakage #4 I think, three long sides and this short side. I'm ready for an upgrade.

I take off the knuckle with the wheel hub and rotor attached so I don't have to mess with the wheel bearings.. usually you can pop the lower trunion cap off and leave the steering arm on but I couldn't figure out why the knuckle wouldn't come off so I pulled the steering arm too.. I had forgoten to take the rock ring/felt of the back

I'll do a write up on the trip (all 1500 miles of it) and the absolute chaos that occurred in the month or so prior to it when I have time to sort through pictures etc. lots of mods and truck stuff I did to the 62 I'd like to write up about.

Soooo, lots to catch up on from the past couple months, I've been slacking on keeping this thread up to date but there's a bunch of stuff I have to write up, including my GMSTR trip.

And, this happened today.

I realllllly suck at keeping 3FE's together.

:flush:

Bearing?

This was the #5 rod bearing by the way. 10K miles on motor. Filling the crankcase with mud (5 quarts to be precise) is probably the culprit. Should have done the bearings immediately after...

This time when I heard the knock I shut it down. I think I can save this motor. At least until I have the next swap lined up, guess that's going to have to jump up the priority list.

Rod bearings and pan gasket are on the way here.
The #5 crank journal looks pretty decent, So I'm not concerned about it with a new bearing. I'll be putting all new mains in.

The main issue preventing me from just throwing new rod and main bearings at it right now is that the rod has some damage on the sides of the bearing mating surface. I slept on it and I think I'm going to pull the head and put another con-rod in.

Should have it back up and running by the end of the week if I can find some 0.020"-over main bearings

Can you file off the damage on the rod?

I don't think so it's pretty rough. I think it will be worth it to put another rod in. I have a whole box of them.

Played around on it for a few minutes after work yesterday, got the intake off. Planned on pulling the head but decided it would be better to wait till Saturday and I'll pull and install the head in the same day. I don't want to let the bare deck surfaces sit for long with the humidity here.

Why are you pulling the head?

So I can get the piston and more importantly the rod out.

They can't come out from the bottom... right??

PITA
