With those two crossmembers it looks like a good spot for a skid plate. Is that in the works?

I might plate the two together as a short term skid plate but I like @GLTHFJ60 thought process of mounting it the frame so as not to send impact forces through the bushings. This tubing is also not heavy wall.

True, hard mounting to the frame would be better.

My other project was getting the 2nd crossmember fabbed and welded in.
I’m going to weld a fill port into the PTO cover since this mounting blocks the original fill port.
You can also see my shiny new speedometer cable I installed.

You might see a second trans support. I see more lashing points for Jerry cans.

You don’t want them to be unsecured.

DUDE that was probably the most avoidable trail damage ever.

Not one of my finer moments.

That transmission mount you made looks really good. Is that the last of your bugs fixed in your drivetrain setup?

Thanks man. the T-case and doubler being supported should alleviate any more issues with hardware loosening up.
It feels good driving, nice and firm but no vibrations or clunks. Can’t see the shifter move with the throttle like I could when I was using the 80 series bushings as motor mounts and they started getting worn out.

It sucks that’s I had to completely re do a big project like motor mounts and transmission mounts but at least we’re all learning something. I hope.

Going wheeling for about a week, the 27th to the 2nd. Should be good to see how the new engine/trans mounts hold up. Still running open rear so I don't expect any real trail breakage, looking forwards to seeing how my relocated steering reservoir effects the pump longevity as well. If I burn up another pump I'm going ram-assist.

Getting a skidplate done before going wheeling?

doubt it. trying to get an entire 80 built as well. I'll be alright though. Haven't had much issue without one yet beside clipping some fins off the splitcase. That was when I was SUA though.

What kind of steering cooler are you running again?

I think it’s about 6x10, really thick 2” core, has 10AN outlets stepped down to 6AN. It was an oil cooler on my dad’s Jaguar before he upgraded it, previously I had a transmission cooler from a Jeep I was using. No difference.

If you could bring a temp gun on your next few trail runs you could get an idea of steering fluid temps. See of it's an issue or not.

good idea, although I'm fairly certain it was my reservoir location. Did you see my thread in the hardcore section? My feed hose had a big arc in it, I think running the pump dry on inclines
