I've been quiet for a long time, but I saw this today and had to post it. It's an '82 (Nov 81) with what appears to be 71xxx original miles, factory PS and A/C - unmolested other than a really crappy paint job (it was originally tan and should have been left tan) and missing smog pump, very little rust, hard top and doors, tiger top and bikini top, full and half soft doors, new carpet, Tuffy locking console with stereo. The coolest part is where I saw it--it's now in my yard! This will be Aurica's school "car" - with the agreement that dad gets to borrow it on occasion-- I feel another trip to Canyon Lands, Black Hills, Ouray, or ???? ROBERT-- you can't sell your 40 now! I'm looking for a 2.5" lift and some chrome wheels (FJ60 style)-- plan to complete the de-smog and do all the normal PM/ base lining routine before she starts driving it. I'm the 3rd owner- PO had it since 1993 and it's still wearing the same tires that were on it when he bought it--still plenty of tread, but they're dry rotting. He's 74 years old and just drove it around the country roads for occasional fun-then returned it to his barn. My fever is starting to warm up again! Best part is that I found it 20 miles from home and the price was right :)

Awesome find Dave. You just never know when these will pop up.

Mine is in a thousand pieces but hope to have it ready by Fall.

I might have some FJ60 Chrome wheels. Let me check. They were on my 60 when I bought it. Might even have the spare.

that would be great if you have the wheels- a matching spare would also be a nice touch! :) Let me know if you find them- I need to get some new rubber before driving it due to the poor condition of the current tires and would prefer to have the new ones mounted directly on the replacement wheels. Also, if anyone comes across a 2.5" lift, please let me know- I'm thinking 33x10.50's would be about right for this one. If it gets any taller Aurica will need a ladder. Any tips on the de-smog? I've read (a long time ago) that these have a high altitude compensation that should be left operable, but I want to get rid of all other devices and a few miles of vac hoses.

Thanks

I desmogged my 60 and the 76 FJ40. The 76 was easy. I have gone back and forth on the 60. I had the HAC for a while but I think it is out now. There are several write ups on desmogging in the 60 section. Mine was an 81 so it should have been similar.

I ordered the kit with allen head plugs from FJ40Jim on here. The kit is faily cheap and easier than figuring it out and hunting parts for myself.
