Ok I wasn't sure where to post this but I want "tech" guys to see this and didn't want to put it in the Chit Chat section.

I am going to be RA of my hall at school this coming school year. One of my duties is to make name plates for doors of each of the guys on my hall. There are 24 guys on my hall.

I am trying to come up with a cool way of making name plates. Basically they can be made out of anything and anything really goes with the design. The only limit is $$$$ and they can't be too terribly big and I need to have access to a good amount of the material they will be made of.

I do have a mig welder and a Fire Axe :D along with all the normal hand tools.

So what kind of ideas do you have? I was thinking of chopping up a bunch of license plates to make shorter ones that said each guy's name.

Let me know what kind of ideas you guys have?

Sounds like lots of work. Why cant they make their own plates? Like you all can have a big sleepover with tin snips and pop rivets, just making plates? You can just tell them they NEED to use the old licence plates, that way there would still be a common motif to be followed like with that picture by Andy Warhol with the soup cans.

Or you can give them nick-names. "Your nickname is 439 LCJ, and your nickname is 883 KSI and so on and so on.

Life would be different if I were King...

It's good to be the king....

MY CA went nutzo freshman year. We went out on the town (Milwaukee, WI, USA) and found and borrowed street signs with our name on them and put them on our doors. The Hall supervisor asked where we go the signs and of course we told him of the CA's great idea to use street signs and how cool it ws that he went and got them for us. He was in the bin by late November, litterally comitted. It was a rough year after that. I kinda felt bad for the guy.

Screw it, give them a rattle can and have them spray their names on the door.

I alway wondered why people steal license plates.

You could add to it that they have to get a licence plate from the state they grew up in.

Dude, that's awesome, hahaha

the door.

Well I can do just about anything, (I'm very ambious) Wood, metal, fiberglass anything really.

Anything goes with this project. I do have a whole bunch of trees in my back yard that I just cut down. Hmmmmm

Can't think of much to make with a mig welder and a fire axe.

What other materials are you good with?

You could burn names into the wood with your fire axe... ;)

I was thinking of that I might give that a shot tomorrow. Not really sure how it would come out but we'll never know if we don't try.

Hammer old license plates flat with the broad side of the fire ax, and then grind off the paint. Mig weld their names into the tags using the same method many people learn to weld with; drawing a bead.

How about welding steel rod onto a plate. Bend rod into letters = > Names on plates. Could be pretty cool looking if they were rusted.
