Works really well. Coming home last night my drive way was coated with a nasty black ice...bad enough that the LC slid 10 feet backwards (fairly steep incline) with my foot on the brake, and I could not stand on the ice without siding down my driveway. I first tried starting in 2nd gear and locking in low...no forward movement at all. Engaged the crawl control and up the driveway she went, albeit making all kinds noises.

What about downhill?

I have a 1/4 mile section of ice on a 1 in 4 slope on my paved drive right now. Up is easy. And down would be fine if I just slid off into a ditch, but the ditch is 60 feet straight down. I am just sitting tight. I mounted Blizzacks all around. Huge improvement over stock or all terrain tires. Huge. Save your life huge.

I have used Crawl Mode both up and downhill with ice, works great everytime!!!

Crawl Mode has to be the most underrated and least understood of the features on a modern Land Cruiser.

It has rescued me from all sorts of situations with aplomb - albeit with noises that make one think something is surely self-destructing.

Glad to hear these positive reports!

But but the 80 and 100 guys say we have a lifted highlander and it's a watered down soccer mom mobile?

this is sooooo true!!! some people have said it's just a gimmick etc... I can tell ya it really works!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I will say, I've used it once in mud and it was no help. It could have been that I was pretty stuck though. It just doesn't seem to spin the wheels fast enough to clean out the tires.

There is video on YouTube with one buried to the frame in sand and it figured out how to get itself out. I wouldn't think it would work well in mud though.

Yea, slick dirt roads it is pretty good. But in deep slick mud it won't spin tires quick enough. They just get caked over and you lose momentum.

Hey guys,
Just taking my 08 200 for the first test drive, purchased a few days ago.
I just tried Crawl control at low speed in a level gravel parking lot, it really starts lurching back and forth after driving about 50 feet. Is that similar to your experience?
Thanks,

I just got my first LC, and am loving it! But being an old school Jeeper and know nothing about the Crawl Control. I played with it a little bit on some hills and it makes a lot of noise; is that normal? lots of clicking and a low growling sound.

Yep, sounds like the truck is going to implode

Just sit back and steer

Yes. It makes HORRIBLE sounds...like the thing is being eaten by robots or something... But it WORKS.

I think Toyota should have made a message text show up on
the info display that simply says, "No worries... Those horrible sounds I'm making are normal. :)"
