For 200 bucks, Costco has a cambell/housefield (or what ever the name) compressor kit that has a bunch of air tools and hose along with a sprayer. Anyone have any thoughts on this? I don't need lots of power, just enough to run basic tools. It doesn't need to be professional and supper fast, jsut get the job done.

What kind of 'basic tools' do you want to run? A small compressor (<5 gallons) is usually only good for nailers, 20-30 gallons is OK for occasional sander/ air wrench/ impact guns/ sprayers (small jobs) and if you want to do larger jobs or have more than one person drawing from it a 60 gallon or better is good. The difference in these is not just the tank size, the pumps on larger compressors put out more CFM, so they can handle sustained use. Cheesy companies will put small pumps on large tanks, not to mention they are not as well built. Cambell Hausefield is a marginal company, homeowner grade stuff. If you're only gonna use the compressor occasionally, they work fine. If you plan to wrench on stuff every weekend, step up to a better quality rig.

It will work for an air ratchet or impact gun, but you will be waiting for the tank to fill between uses. You won't be able to paint anything bigger than a fender, and it will struggle with that. An air drill, sander or die grinder will drag it down fast. That compressor is rated at 3.7 SCFM at 90 PSI, you would need a minimum 7 SCFM @ 90 PSI to spray a vehicle, or use tools that require a lot of air. The oil-less pump might not be an issue for occasional use, but won't hold up as well as a traditional oiled crank belt-driven one, especially if you tax it with a sprayer or those other high-air use tools. On the flip side, you sure do get a lot of stuff with it for the money. I'd expect that CH deal to be $350-$450, Costco gets good deals :D

after looking at it for a while, I do need a bit more power ispecially if I want to spray something. Unfortunately I only ahve a 200 dollar budget. Maybe something used if I am lucky.
