Coronado National Forest Proposes Changes to the Motorized Travel System on Nogales RD

Dear BRC Action Alert Subscriber,

The Coronado National Forest is proposing to make changes to the motorized travel system on the Nogales Ranger District, located in southeastern Arizona. Changes to the designated motorized travel system are proposed, in part, to meet newly identified Forest administrative and user needs and to protect areas of documented ecological and cultural resource impacts from future damage and/or degradation. The District covers approximately 352,280 acres in two ecosystem management areas in the Santa Rita and Tumacacori Mountains.

The first step in the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) review of the proposed action is scoping. The Forest Service (FS) is asking the public to help us identify issues and concerns related to the proposed action.

Maps and documents outlining the proposed changes to the motorized travel system are available at the District office in Nogales, AZ, at the Forest Supervisor's Office in Tucson, AZ, and on the Forest's website at http://www.fs.fed.us/r3/coronado.

To best assist the FS your comments should be submitted by October 13, 2010. However, public comments about the project will be considered by the Forest until an environmental assessment is released for public comment.

Written comments may be sent by U.S. mail to Ms. Laura White, Travel Management Project Leader, Coronado National Forest, 300 West Congress Street, Tucson, AZ 85701; by facsimile to "ATTN: Nogales Travel Management NEPA" at (520) 388-8305; and by electronic mail (email) to comments-southwestern-coronado@fs.fed.us with "Nogales Travel Management NEPA" in the subject line.

Email comments may be sent in the body of the message, in rich text format (.rtf) or in Microsoft Word format (doc. or docx). You may provide telephone comments and/or obtain further information about the proposed action from Ms. White at (520) 388-8419. You may also provide in-person comments to her at the Forest Supervisor's office (address above) or to FS Staff at the District office in Nogales.

In addition to the above, you may provide comments at a public open house to be hosted by the Forest Service on September 23, 2010, from 3:30 PM to 6:00 PM, at the Esplendor Resort located at 1069 Camino Caralampi in Rio Rico, Arizona. Comment forms will be available at the open house.

Questions about the NEPA process may be directed to Ms. Andrea W. Campbell, Forest NEPA Coordinator, at (520) 388-8352.

As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please contact BRC.
Thanks in advance for your support,
