It's officially been two weeks now since I made the trek to and from Minneapolis (from Denver) to bring home my baby girl, a champaign 2000 LC with 177XXX on the clock. Yes, hailing from MN she has a fair amount of rust, but I love her just the same! I took off the hideous bug guard, removed the running boards, and allowed her true beauty to shine. I also have an appointment with the man, the myth, the legend himself, Robbie Antonson next week, just to make sure she's running as optimally as I think she is.

Apparently the PO had requested a brand new set of Cooper Discover H/Ts to be mounted and balanced when he traded her into the dealership (no, I don't know why either). Point being, I have a virtually brand new set of shoes on my cruiser. I'd love to put some aesthetically pleasing KO2s on the LC, but really can't justify the expense right now as I was just handed a perfectly good set of new tires (stock size 275/70R16)

My question is, does anyone have any experience with the Cooper Disover H/T?! Yes friends, I did use the search function (thanks in advance for the helpful hint...), but as you know this search function isn't nearly as optimized as google, so basically the first several pages are all for sale posts, or posts with the word 'cooper' or 'discover' etc, etc. I live in Denver, so while I would absolutely LOVE the peace of mind the KO2s would give me in the winter, I'm wondering whether the all-season capabilities of this Cooper Discover H/T will suffice...especially considering the majority of my 'snow driving' will be in the few to several inches at a time Denver normally sees. Yes, I would love to spend more time wheeling and going up to the mountains in the winter, but the vast majority of my time will be spent on highways and city streets, so the sake of this post I was hoping anyone with firsthand experience with Cooper Discover H/Ts could chime in, especially as it relates to snow traction.

Thanks friends!
Ben

Yes, I have lots of experience with those tires. They are a all season highway tread, smooth quite ride, they track nice, good in the rain and light snow.
I've had them on my work vans, they make a better steer tire than they do a drive tire, especially on a cargo van.
But being on a full time 4x4 and the type of driving you're most likely to do, they'll be just fine until you can justify getting rid of them.
Have you gone to a tire shop and asked about trading them in?
They make a great tire for a trailer as long as they are a "D" or "E" rated tire.
A lot of people buy those because they are cheap, ride nice and last a long time.

Thanks for the input. So all things considered you think these tires will handle their own in a 3-6 inches of snow?

On the Cruiser yes, as long as you take it nice and easy.
They're not a set of Blizzaks.

Currently have a set of their cousin, the HTP, on the wife's '11 4Runner SR5 and they have been great tires. Haven't really tested them in deep snow myself but the wife does plenty of traveling for work and she has never complained about them slipping in the few instances she has driven in snow. Rain they are pretty good, but I say pretty good as I can feel them suddenly drag when hitting a puddle regardless of depth. Other than that what @Spike555 said is true. If I were to do over again I would have waited for the AT3 or ATP for a more aggressive look but so far, two vehicles with 2 Cooper sets and zero issues in multiple terrains. Cooper has my money until otherwise.

This is my preferred tire, I have tons of experience with this tire, they are great in all types of weather because of the siping and tire compound.
They're even great off road in everything except deep mud and they last forever.
LTX M/S2 tires | Michelin US

These are what's on my truck now, they came on the truck when I bought her in June, they were brand new.
LTX A/T 2 tires | Michelin US

My money goes to Michelin first, then to Cooper. I had the LTX M/S on my Land Rover when I first got her, then once those were to weathered to hold air I went with the Cooper Discoverer S/T.
The S/T looked bad ass and did everything the LTX could do plus handle mud, but they were noisier.

Yeah my dad has been a Michelin man since I can remember. However, the Coopers always seem to be anywhere from $30-$50 cheaper per tire for comparable tires... Still don't have that kind of money but as I get older I am sure that it will free up. But for now Cooper has my money.
