Confused ATRAC Question

I went into my local truck shop today to order the ATRAC swith for my 07 MT FJ, and they told me that I would be wasting my money on the switch because even though i had the wiring harness for it in my truck putting on the switch wouldnt activate the system, they said that i needed to interface software from my computer to the truck to activate the system and that they didnt have the software in yet. When i told them that this didnt sound right to me, one of the guys that worked there took me out to his FJ and showed me where he had just installed the switch and that it was inoperative. Does this sound right to anyone else?

You have to have the E-locker for it to work. That may be why he couldn't get his to work.

I do have the E-locker and he told me that mine still wouldnt work. Is that true or false?

I'd guess that he doesn't know what he's talking about, and doesn't have the e-locker. I've seen plenty of people who have posted up that they got it to work for them, but they all had e-lockers.

if i were you i would just order the switch online and put it in. it will work. worked on my 07 fj just fine. if you are talking to a dealer most wont even own up to it working because it takes money out of their pocket.

If you want to test before you buy, put in 4low Pull the two wires out were the switch goes and touch them together. If it sounds like its going fall apart it works.

I thought this depended on the production date? Worked on mine (04/2007) however; an earlier model may still need to electronically hack to make the ATRAC work.

The "ATRAC-hack" is to make the ATRAC work simultaneously with the E-locker. Ask me how I know.

Yep, You are right! Once I tried to buy an intake manifold bolt for a GM 3.8 V6 motor at a Pontiac dealer. when the parts guy asked me what is was for (I had the rusted one with me for a sample) I told him it was for a Buick - he said they don't sell parts for Buicks! The next day I went back and told a different guy it was for a Pontiac, he found the bolt! Imagine that! I'd say that not all parts people at dealerships know what they are talking about. In fact I'd say that most of them don't know or care what they are talking about!

I know, I have a bad attitude!
