I use smoke signals too. Why weren't they listed?

Most yota events I've been to have a defualt of channel 4. If it gets harry then other groups that split up move another channel. but 4 is the defacto if you have no other clue what everyone else is on.

edit: similiar to werd's smoke signlas, i use leaks to mark my way in case you get lost. I also use a PA speaker to yell at people too. Also to play the Auburn fight song after I've cleared an obstacle! WAAAAAAAAAAR EAGLE! HEY!

You'd be suprised how many people try to talk into the mic without pushing the button...

Well fxxx, I think I'm golden to take that test then. :bounce:

Just remember the PTT button is Push To Talk, not Push To Think. ;) Just a little aviation humor, too often we get tards (guilty of being one myself before) who clutter up the busy airways with ATC when they key the mic and you get "ums", and "uhhhs" and jacked up readbacks. I mean you'd think it would be kind of important to know how to operate a radio when you're dealing with Tower, Approach Control, Center and a number of other aircraft in the area all trying to not run into eachother in the sky, yet we don't have any radio operators tests or certification on our pilots licenses. :hhmm:

So I ask again, why is it so important? What happens if you jack it up? Can you injure yourself with them or cause systems to crash potentially putting someone's life at risk? I really don't know, I should find out eh? It's probably more because it's to be used in a survival situation and you wouldn't want someone to be stuck out in the bush and not know how to use their equipment and end up dying. :meh:

I think the license has to do the gov't keeping a tight grip on all communication frequencies and making sure that you're skeered to break the rules... they aren't worried about us accidentally poking our eyes out!

yeah has to do with keeping a grip on things.. I don't have a HAM license but I do have in the garage a radio that will broadcast on ANY freq.. ie. tune to local radio station and any one closer to you than the station you can that is listening to that station you can broadcast too... hense need for a license to broadcast with a HAM
