I grew up on the western slope. That's always good wheeling. Around Ouray there is Engineer pass. Not really a ballbreaker but very beautiful, gets above timberline.

I'll keep it in mind for one of my trips out there. Thanks

So lets make it more interesting. I have been noticing that my clutch will get really weak and slip after a few hours of driving or on the trail. Also had some oil dripping, in the tranny area. Figured it was main seal, and that the clutch just needs replacement. So after this weekend of driving and getting ready for trip to Colorado, I decide to pull the inspection cover to check on clutch thinkness and such. Hhhhmmmm, clutch is good thickness, but lots of oil, but not on the side I expect. So take the cruiser apart, take out the hump and drop the tranny. Main seal is ok, cam plug fine, other freeze plug good too. Get the clutch out and it is covered, and I mean covered, on the tranny side with oil and grease like residue, from oil and dust I suspect. I found that the front seal is bad and oil was coming out of the tranny due to overfill, due to the seal between the tranny/transfer being bad. I added a hose kit to route the fluid back a while back, but I guess this happened before then.

So, had to order the new seal, and since I already had a new gasket kit, I redid the other gaskets and seal between tranny/transfer, have a new clutch kit, and did the engine oil pan seal too, since it was wet around the outside in some spots. Flywheel resurface too. Hopefully when I get the seal tomorrow, I can get it all buttoned up, before I leave on Thursday..... Anyone have a working cruiser for me? hehehe

Oh, and in the meantime I bought an FJ60. Just need to go get it when I get back from Colorado. Will need lots of work. So guess my next line of questions will be 60 type things.

Peace
Out

I'm back!! WOW!! Did we have a great time. Sorry I did not get to meet up with anyone, but we were having a great time, and never came out of the mountains really. I did all the trails in the Wells book for the Colorado Springs area, and then some others we found whilst out playing, or by suggestions by other wheelers up there. The FJ40 did great! The new clutch was a blessing. I did a few difficult rated trails and Eagles Rock proved to be the toughest. I got er dun, but let me tell you, I was soaked when I got to the top. And it was not the weather that made me sweat. I did get to 'extract' a very nice CJ Jeep that got himself wedged between a rock and a tree, on the trail. It took all that little cruiser had to get that done. I did not incur any body damage. Just broke a grease zerk off on the steering arm. Some decent scratches/gouges underneath is all I can see. I will go back. I took a few poser pics, and will post them sometime.

Thanks to all who stepped up to help with spares and 2badfjs for providing himself as a local contact.

The FJ40 will be for sale soon. I plan on building up the Fj60 I purchased, and will see how that goes.

JIM

Jim, I was in Woodland park about every day. I took many of the trails out of there. I also went through Divide a few times. Down to Guffey, over to Canon City. I was in a RV park for a few days, just South of Woodland Park. I also went and drove on Skyline Ave, down South. I did all the tourist things too. Pikes peak, Garden of the Gods, Cave of the Winds, Fossil monument, Gorge and such. The Gulches are all still closed.

I will for sure let you know when I return! You ever been on Eagle Rock?

Brian
